Your beer choices are no longer limited by the selection available in your neighborhood! Craft Beer Club is a monthly subscription that delivers a twelve pack of select microbrews right to your home. Picked from across the U.S. and Canada, each selection has received acclaim and is very popular within its distribution area – but CBC lets you enjoy them wherever you may be.

Every shipment includes relevant issues of the Micro Brew News.

DEAL: When you subscribe or give it as a gift, the subscription will come with bonus items – no coupon code required!

The Club delivers a mixed twelve pack each month which includes three cans or bottles of each of four varieties (they also have a case option) – most month’s selections come in bottles. Each box has had two offerings each from two featured microbreweries.

Two separate volumes of Micro Brew News were included, one for each Brewer. They include information on the history and philosophy of the featured breweries, as well as details on the style, stats, and composition of each brew.

The back of each sheet had a recipe designed to pair well with the beer selections (or in some cases, actually use the beer in the recipe!), as well as some beer-related trivia. The trivia is very instructive, covering some facet of brewing or brew culture in depth. It’s a great way to casual expand your beer IQ.

All the great beer we received in this month’s box!

Two of our selections were from Flat12 Bierwerks in Indianapolis, Indiana. The brewery is proud of its local character, drawing its name from the engine that made Indianapolis famous.

Flat 12 Bierwerks Pogue’s Run Porter: Big flavors of chocolate and coffee infuse this dark and smooth porter. Though this beer has lots of character, it strikes a nice balance between a heavy presence and drinkability.

Flat 12 Bierwerks Walkabout Pale Ale: An Australian inspired Pale Ale that showcases the piney and citrus flavors of Galaxy hops. Similar in feel to a classic IPA, but with the hops providing more in terms of flavor than textural bitterness.

Our second set of beers was from Marshall, Minnesota’s Brau Brothers Brewing Company.

Brau Brother’s Brewing Co. MooJoos Oatmeal Milk Stout: Rich and creamy, this oatmeal milk stout is a classic dessert beer. The oatmeal lends a silky quality to the big, dark chocolate and roasted malt flavors. This is a fabulous milkshake substitute born to be paired with chocolate.

Brau Brother’s Brewing Co. Bancreagie Peated Scotch Ale: The peculiar tone added to this beer by the peat-smoking of the malts gives it a complex, earthy tone reminiscent of Irish whiskey. Notes of tobacco and wood join light fruits to mimic the flavor profile of an aged whiskey, albeit sweeter and with substantially less kick.

CBC reminds us that dads and grads love beer.

This was a nice collection of beer, with lots of backbone. I like trying different styles of beer and being able to taste the different flavor imparted by ingredient choice. Craft Beer Club does a great job of picking beers that have an interesting hop selection or pronounced malts. I do wish they featured more special ales, strong ales, or less common styles, as the tend to select may porters and IPAs. Though often delicious, I would prefer fewer dark beers now that summer is here.
