Gentleman’s Box Review & $15 Coupon – March 2016

Gentleman’s Box is a monthly men’s subscription box – including the required essentials for the savvy man.  Each month includes a copy of GQ, which is delivered separately to subscribers.  Boxes contain selected items ranging from style to grooming.  Whereas past honorees were typically male archetypes, they now tend to be actual individuals.

Each box includes a copy of “The Gentleman’s Post,” an expanded-format booklet filled with cool stuff.  This month is dedicated to “Our Favorite Captain,” honoring Johnny Depp for his charitable work off-screen, as well as his on-screen work.

The booklet has a welcome letter from C0-Founder Christopher George.

The Post includes a new curator’s letter, information on the inspiration, the contents, details on every item, the Gentleman’s Tip for the month, and an interview with a Gentleman’s Box subscriber.  I like this format — it has a nicer look, and the content makes me appreciate the items more.

Woodchuck USA Wooden Collar Stays ($30) These can’t be found on their website, so the price is based on what’s listed on the pamphlet included in the box.  My first thought was how great these are for business travelers!  I love metal collar stays, but these are also metal detector friendly.  They are quite tiny and have a deep, almost smoky wooden aroma.  

Billy Jealousy Shaved Ice After-Shave Balm ($3.38):  Billy Jealousy is a great brand — I love their face cleansers.  This balm has as much a botanical scent as it does a menthol one.  Strangely, the texture reminds me of ultrasound gel, but this absorbs quickly without leaving a residue.  It is cooling, without being overpowering.

Unsimply Stitched – Mixed Stripe Socks ($12):  This mid-height sock has a smooth texture inside and out, so it doesn’t feel thick in dress shoes.  I like the palette and pattern — it is interesting without being too crazy to wear for business.

Air Force Aviator Sunglasses ($15):  Aviators are both fashionable and practical, and this pair has a robust 400 UV rating.  These have a classic black tint and simple black frame.  I like that the sizing on these is just right — too many off the rack sunglasses are sized for giant heads so they feel clunky.  These felt like prescription frames straight out of the bag. 

Knots Apparel Shipyard Pocket Square ($26):  This square is obviously perfect for the yacht club, but the handsome pattern will complement any blue, brown, or light suit.  

Here’s how the pocket square looks folded.  The durable fabric isn’t silky, so it holds shape very well. 

The company has also pledged their support to The Joseph Fund.

I like the curation on Gentleman’s Box — all the items this month were high quality and very wearable.  I appreciate the effort to match the color palette of the pocket square and socks.

The total value was roughly $90, which is pretty amazing for a $25 box!
