Basil Essential Oil ($14.99) Basil is one of my favorite herbs to cook with and grow, but it also has some benefits outside of the kitchen and garden. It may help with scalp issues and support joints of the body. It smells different than what I expected, with a hint of anise.

BO Be Gone Essential Oil Blend ($12.99) This is our blend for the month and it’s supposed to help keep body odor at bay when made into a natural deodorant (not rubbed directly on the skin, it has to be diluted first). The blend is comprised of lavender, orange, patchouli, ylang ylang, and sandalwood essential oils. It’s a warm and earthy scent.

Dark Patchouli Essential Oil Blend ($10.99) I’m a fan of patchouli’s scent, although there are plenty of people who avoid it. It has an earthy floral note and is supposed to help uplift as well as detoxify.

Rosemary Essential Oil Blend ($11.99) Here is another popular cooking herb, and I think the scent is uplifting and it clears my head. It’s supposed to help with hair and scalp issues and support the joints.

Cetyl Alcohol ($1.99), Emulsifying Wax ($2.99), and Sunflower Seed Oil ($1.99) are the bonus items included this month to help us complete our recipes.

They always include a sheet of pre-scored stickers to place on our bottles and finished projects.

Each month we receive six new recipes to add to our collection.

Sometimes the recipes continue on the back of the cards, but mostly they list important info like what’s in the box, what’s coming next month, and more.

Below are a few of the projects I completed with this month’s recipe box and supplies!

By far the way I mainly use essential oils is by diffusing them. Just place the required number of drops in the diffuser, add water, and turn it on. I usually turn it off after 30 minutes or so. This blend was one of my favorites, it’s definitely a keeper, but then I love patchouli and let me tell you, it sticks around for a while after I turn off the machine!

I also like making the rollerball blends (and recently took extras to work so some of my coworkers could make them too!). The rollerball bottle came in my Big Bonus Box, as did the coconut oil. I simply placed the listed number of essential oil drops in the bottle, topped with coconut oil, and replaced the rollerball. Then I gave it a shake and rolled it onto my wrists. Again, this recipe really spoke to me. At first there’s an anise-like scent from the basil but eventually it wears off and I’m left with, you guessed it, patchouli!

I always place the label on the bottle before filling because it’s kind of hard to get it on there if the bottle is greasy (because I inevitably spill something).

I have a very sensitive scalp but I did want to try out the scalp scrub recipe. I placed the essential oils in a plastic cup (because I didn’t want to take glass into the shower) and then added some shampoo and granulated sugar (you could also use salt but beware if you have any sores up there as the salt could burn). My shampoo is free of fragrance so I could really smell the essential oils while rubbing it into my scalp. I rinsed and followed with a second sudsing without the oils and sugar. I could smell the patchouli for a while after my hair dried before it faded away and I didn’t experience any irritation.

Here’s what the scrub looked like before I gave it a stir.

I was thrilled with the oils that I received in the May Hair Care box from Simply Earth! I haven’t made the other recipes yet but they require working at a certain temperature and I haven’t bought a candy thermometer yet. I was super pleased with the recipes that I made, but then again, they all smelled strongly of patchouli and so I was bound to love them since that scent is one that I thoroughly enjoy. I’m pretty excited about next month’s box because the theme is “DIY Diffusers” and as I mentioned earlier, I mainly use the oils for diffusing. Have you tried any of the recipes from this box? Let me know how it turned out for you!
