Butcher Box is a subscription box service that delivers premium quality meat for $129 per month. Each box comes with a selection of meat (about 15-20 meals worth) that has been carefully cut and prepared. The Butcher Box brings back that unique experience you get when you visit your local butcher shop. Their specialty is 100% grass-fed beef, but they also provided mixed subscription options. You can also have the box delivered every two or three months depending on your needs.

This is a review of the Classic Custom Box that costs $149. Our box also includes extra ground beef plus Breakfast Sausage and Butcher Box Bacon as add-ons.

The flap of the box indicates a checklist, so you’ll know what to do with the contents when it arrives!

All the meat are vacuum sealed in plastic, packed in an insulated bag, and then kept frozen within the outer soft-side cooler padding and box with a large dry ice pack. We’ve always had everything arrive rock-solid, so there have been no issues with temperature control during shipping. The meat arrives ready to throw in the freezer or thaw for use.

The Custom Box allows you to choose 6 cuts from their selection.

Here are all of our choices!

Grass-Fed Ground Beef. These packs of ground beef are made of 85% lean and 15% fat, ideal to use for burger patties.

It’s so juicy and very meaty. It produces a little liquid when cooked, making it the perfect meat for grilling cause it won’t flare up much when cooked on the grill!

Rib Eye Steak. It’s considered as the king of steaks, as it is mostly cut from the center of the rib section which has the smoothest and richest texture. It’s also the part with the most noticeable beefy flavor.

The pack was divided into two 10 oz cuts, so it’s easier for me to cook separately. The steaks are fairly lean and the bands of fat are adequate enough to provide the big, greasy rib-eye flavor.

Uncured Smoked Bacon. Bacon is simply the most irresistible cut of pork meat. It’s easy and quick to cook, and we just love having it for breakfast.

The pork used for this smoked bacon are vegetarian-fed and humanely raised without antibiotics. It’s also certified to be gluten-free, non-GMO, and paleo-friendly.

Pork Breakfast Sausage. These sausages are made from the pasture-raised, antibiotic-free ground pork meat seasoned with salt, pepper, and sage. It has no added sugar.

The meat is so rich in fiber and protein, and it’s very easy to cook too. You can either sear it or grill it! It’s a new breakfast favorite!

For this one, I seared the pork sausage and served them together with scrambled egg and fried potato.

It’s so meaty and filling. I can feel the juice spreading inside my mouth with every bite.

Grass-Fed Beef Filet Mignon Steak. It’s a small cut of meat from the smaller end of the tenderloin muscle.

Each pack contains 170 grams of pure hand trimmed delicate filet. It’s so tender that it can be cut with a basic table knife. Once these are cooked, there is virtually no waste at all.

I love pairing it with steamed potato and grilled asparagus.

The meat is so firm and beautiful. It’s tender and juicy too.

I really like my steak cooked medium rare. So chewy and tasty!

Sweet Italian Ground Pork Sausage. Pork sausages are also great breakfast options. These ones from Butcher Box are made from certified non-GMO, gluten-free, grass-fed, and naturally grown ground pork meat seasoned with salt, paprika, spices including fennel and pepper.

It has just enough fat to keep the sausage nice and juicy when cooked.

If you love meat (especially grassfed), Butcher Box is an excellent subscription to try! We love its wide selection of premium quality cuts, and in our Custom Box for this month, we chose a combination of beef and pork meat, including steaks and some breakfast picks like sausages and our forever favorite bacon. I really appreciate that everything is well-packed! The meats arrived frozen and ready to be thawed for cooking. Although it’s a little pricey, it’s totally worth it considering the convenience, the top-notch meat they deliver, and their excellent service!
