We have complete spoilers for the April 2019 Boxwalla Book Box! The theme is  TALKIN’ ABOUT MY GENERATION.

NOTE: Last day to subscribe is April 10!

Each box includes:

The first book included is 27 year old literary superstar, French writer Édouard Louis’ newly released, Who Killed My Father (15.95). Often compared to Émile Zola, Louis has single handedly taken on the Left, Right and Center of the French political establishment. One of the very interesting points that Louis makes is about how the language we use to talk about the working class needs to absorb & involve what we have learnt from the anti-racism movement, the feminist movement & the LGBTQ movement. And he illustrates with this powerful little book of non fiction, how class struggle intersects with the struggle to define masculinity & how both political structures as well as rigid gender norms can perpetuate an endless class divide.

The second book is award winning Japanese writer Taeko Kono’s Toddler Hunting : And Other Stories (16.95). Taeko Kono was a contemporary of Yukio Mishima, though not as well known in the West as he is. In the April Book Box, we feature a book of Taeko Kono’s short stories, that is her only translated work in English. A masterful writer, Taeko Kono’s stories are deeply insightful, with both a quiet stillness as well as a strange vigor, as she navigates the intimacy between people in very unusual ways.

Since it’s spring, as a way to encourage you to go outside, read, look around and jot down your musings (either as drawing or writing), we have included a darling little pocket sized notebook by a U.S based indie company that is a favorite of notebook aficionados : Baron Fig. It is the pocket sized Vanguard ($3) in charcoal, with dot grid style of paper inside so that it can be used for writing or doodling.

Cost of the box : $29.95
