Tea Runners is a monthly loose leaf tea subscription that sends 4 varieties of high quality tea from small batch providers. Many of the offerings are award-winning teas and they include several different types of tea, such as pu-erh, green, matcha, herbal, and black. Tea Runners is $25 a month with free shipping to the US and Canada, and currently $8 to ship internationally.

There is an undiscovered world of loose leaf tea out there. Hundreds of small tea importers and blenders you’ve never heard of meticulously master their craft and produce some of the best cups of tea in the world.

They source their teas from the finest farms and produce their fresh blends in small batches to achieve the highest quality.

They compete in national and international contests, receiving top honors for their creations.

But as a consumer it’s not easy to get your hands on these wonderful teas. It’s only easy to get your hands on large batch producers, sold by large franchises like Teavana and David’s Tea. These blends often contain chemicals and unnatural ingredients to maintain consistent flavors and colors.

The outside of the box had a map and made me think of the Pirates of the Caribbean. It looked like a little traveling chest!

I think I found the treasure, look at the golden packages! Each shipment includes enough tea to make 30-50 cups of tea. I know, you’re thinking how in the world can I get 50 cups from those bags? High quality tea can be steeped several times, just add 30 seconds to each subsequent steeping.

There was a colorful card on top.

There was a little info about this month’s selections. This is my first month with Tea Runners but it looks like they have an online store where I can purchase my favorites! They even gave a hint as to what might be coming in the October box. Pumpkin spice!

My September teas! Two of the teas were labeled organic.

Each bag had info about the teas, origin, steeping instructions, caffeine level, and ingredients. This is very detailed and I love it. I’m kind of a geek about tea.

Ginger Lime Rooibos is a caffeine-free herbal tea that smelled like lime candy! I was so worried that it would taste fake or that the ginger would burn my throat but I have to say, this is one of the BEST herbal teas I have ever tried!

Rooibos, ginger, and lemongrass give this tea exceptional flavor and was perfect for sipping in the evening. I rarely get excited over herbal teas but wow!

Himilayan Golden Black is an award winning black tea from Nepal and is one that can be steeped several times before being discarded.

I was greeted with a floral bouquet when I opened the bag and this tea was mild but flavorful when steeped.

I am not a fan of matcha due to an unfortunate matcha caramel latte experience several years ago. I’ve never actually tried matcha tea but have disliked almost everything flavored with this green tea powder so I was a little apprehensive about trying Matcha Maté, which also includes yerba mate and lemongrass.

I don’t know what I was so worried about! This tea ended up having a pretty green shade in my cup and had a vegetal flavor and was almost minty. It had a strong but not overbearing flavor. I ended up feeling very energized after drinking this and even skipped my Sunday nap!

Silver Strands is a green tea from China.

It was heartier than I expected and steeped up a lovely pale green color in my cup.

I really enjoyed my first Tea Runners shipment! Right now they are sold out so you will need to join a wait-list until spots open up, possibly in late October. Also, Tea Runners currently only offers one type of box, but they anticipate offering 3 types of subscriptions soon so subscribers can get more of what they love. The teas I received were high quality and exceedingly tasty. I didn’t experience any weird ingredients such as citric acid, which I am always disappointed to find in tea, such as the ones from Teavana. I enjoy subscriptions like Tea Runners because I get to try several different teas without having to buy in bulk and see it go to waste, plus you usually have a purchase a minimum dollar amount before getting free shipping. If you enjoy the thrill of trying exceptional teas each month then get on that waiting list!
