Septembers’s box is New Leaf.

Hello, New Leaf! It’s time to recharge, refresh, and refine. Inside this box you’ll find a few of our faves that are sure to give you a beauty boost this fall.

The information card gives brief details on each item, and there’s a $3 off $15 coupon too.

The card reminds you that you can find the full-sized version at Target.com/beautybox.

Everything in the box. The September Target Beauty Box – Total Hydration is $7:

Curls Unleashed | Curl Defining Crème – 1.75 oz ($1.06): Use this gel on natural curls to boost shine while defining and hydrating curls. It is made without petrolatum, mineral oil, SD alcohol, or parabens. I’ve received this before and got mixed results. I like the way it defines my curls, but it is too heavy and weighs them down. This is better suited for someone with thicker hair.

Curls | Blueberry Leave In Conditioner – 1 oz ($1.50): So, let me first say that this has a very sweet, fruity scent. Some people like that, but I am not one of them. It wasn’t unpleasant, but it was noticeable and took a while for me to get used to. This leave-in conditioner is free of parabens and sulfates. It uses organic blueberry extract, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, and mango butter to quench curls. The formula is lightweight and great when I just want to wash and go. It leaves my curls soft and full of bounce. BTW, the item description for this box shows that subscribers were supposed to get a 2 oz sample. I think Target owes me…

SheaMoisture | Argan Oil & Almond Milk Smooth & Tame Shampoo – 15 mL ($0.44):

SheaMoisture | Argan Oil & Almond Milk Smooth & Tame Blow Out Crème – 15 mL ($0.93):

I have a special place in my heart for SheaMoisture products. They really work for me and are made from natural and organic ingredients, so I can feel good about what I put on my hair. The shampoo made detangling in the shower easier and left my hair feeling smoother. I haven’t tried the blow out crème yet; the rain and humidity here would kill even the best blowout. My only negative is that I didn’t get a sample of the Smooth & Tame Conditioner to use with the shampoo. Although my hair felt hydrated after washing, I still used my normal conditioner.

Palmer’s | Cocoa Butter Formula Lotion Deluxe Trial Size – 1.7 oz ($0.67): The healing properties of cocoa butter have long been known in my family. Got a cut – use cocoa butter to reduce the scar. Got dry skin – use cocoa butter to moisturize and soften skin. Palmer’s is always our go-to brand. This lotion is made with cocoa butter and enriched with Vitamin E to treat dry skin. The scent (of cocoa butter) always reminds me of a day at the beach.

Look Beauty | Pretty Animalz Sheet Mask – Panda ($3.99): Look like a cute panda while you relax and give yourself some much needed pampering. These character masks make me giggle every time I use them. You look silly enough with a sheet mask on, but add a face to the mask and instant hilarity follows. This mask contains lavender to relax the senses, honey to hydrate skin, and the antioxidant properties of camellia (green tea) to fight aging.

St. Ives | Invigorating Apricot Scrub – 1 oz ($0.58): For at least the last 20 years of our friendship, Brandy has made fun of me because of my dedication to St. Ives apricot scrubs. I’ve tried higher priced luxury products, but always return to this brand because they work and are easy on my wallet. St. Ives scrubs can be a bit coarser, but I like that feeling. Plus, they leave my skin looking brighter and smoother. The Fresh Skin formula is targeted to address both basic skincare concerns and acne/blemishes (contains 2% salicylic acid). This is the perfect size for me to pack in my travel kit, so I don’t have to miss my weekly exfoliation while vacationing.

[Editor’s Note: Summer is being way too conservative when she says 20 years….]

Chapstick Total Hydration 3-in-1 Lip Care – Blood Orange ($2.99): The 3 benefits of this product – 1) moisturizes lips for up to 8 hours, 2) renews lips’ natural barrier with oils rich in Omegas 3/6/9, and 3) transforms the appearance of dry, damaged lips. I will always take a lip balm. I use one daily under my lipstick for a smoother finish. And the blood orange flavor is a bonus!

The September box contained a little more than $12 worth of product. The panda mask and Chapstick covered the cost of the box. I was happy with the products selected because they certainly promote the theme of hydration and are items I have and will use. However, I would have preferred more body care and less hair care.

I’m not going to lie, though, I had to do a double take month. Many of the products featured are frequently found in subscriptions aimed at women of color. I’m wondering if Target is using this to gauge interest before possibly launching another box. I would definitely be excited about it!

I chose the Hydration box over the other because of all the great products it has. I’m a fan of Shea Moisture and I think seeing that was enough to get the box. So far I’ve used the face scrub and chapstick. It does keep my lips moist and I love the flavor. The scrub makes my skin feel smooth and not overly dry. I love cocoa butter and that will be going in my purse. I’m excited to try the facial mask and Curls leave-in.

I was happy with the September box but maybe a different brand of shampoo and conditioner?
