Game Box Monthly is a board game subscription that is completely customisable! For $25 a month plus shipping, they will consider your existing board game collection, your preferences, and choose an indie board game just for you. The subscription is pretty no-frills – the box has cool packing tape patterned with the subscription’s logo and name!

This month I was sent two card games — both are for two players!

Sellswords ($15.38) A tile placement cardgame where you recruit a guild using cards of your colour (blue or red). Placing a tile adjacent to another triggers a stat check (the numbers on the edges) as well as a special attack (printed below the character). Whoever wins gets to flip their opponent’s tile to their own colour. It’s a quick game as you can’t go any larger than a 5×5 grid. I love the art!

Jurassattack ($10.14) This is a card game pretty similar to war — each player has their own deck which they draw a card from and reveal simultaneously. Cards have unique effects on them to keep gameplay refreshing. This is another shorter game, which is perfect for trying multiple rounds.

I was really pleased with my selections this month! Game Box Monthly is a great way to get some new board and card games from indie game designers you might not have considered before. I like that both of my games this month are faster plays for a smaller group of people. I’ll be bringing these with my on my vacation in August!

What did you think of my Game Box Monthly selection?

Both games look fun. I can see my kids playing the Jurassattack game.

I think GBM is doing a pretty good job so far considering they don’t have my interests or preferences on record! My board game collection is growing. 🙂
