Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box that brings only the best and exclusive Sephora beauty and makeup samples. The subscription costs $10 per month, and you’ll get 5 deluxe beauty products, playlists, a fragrance bonus item, plus coupons you can use when you visit in-store.

That little card is a PLAY! Pass that will get you 50 extra Beauty Insider points with a purchase from the box – in-store only.

Your subscription also entitles you to PLAY! Date meetups if your store participates. I don’t even have a Sephora (not even a JCP one) but this box totally excites me even without those experiences – I love the high end brands every month for just $10.

The theme is “Step It Up” featuring beauty goodies that will help elevate some of your basics!

The booklet design was a little different this month! They used every inch!

This fold out poster shows a list of all the items included in this box plus beauty trivia and tips. You can access all of the information and also watch the videos right on the Sephora site or use the app to scan the sheet for more info!

I felt the new inside design was much more readable.

Everything in my box! My variation was box 591.  See the spoilers for other variations here.

Dr Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Wrinkle Recovery Peel ($11)

The box came with this little kit of 2 individually wrapped peeling pads. I was excited about this – I’ve been trying to focus on skincare this year and this pro-strength ferulic and retinol peel is made to retexture and brighten and smooth out your skin. This is just the item I’ve been looking for – so easy to use and super effective without being harsh.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer ($9) This is the gold standard for primers and leaves such a great smooth finish for makeup. You can also use it by itself for a smoothed out look. Although this is a classic, I would have really liked to see the new Smashbox primer water!

These three items arrived in little boxes!

Juliette Has a Gun – Not A Perfume ($2.30)

This single note perfume is non-allergenic. It could be the right choice for a lot of people. I’ve tried it and I dislike it (our reviewer Debbie says “On me, it smells like a warm, clean version of rubbing alcohol”). But nevertheless I appreciated that the sample came in a spritzer.

Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Waterproof Eyeliner ($5.25) This liner isn’t quite gel like but glides on smoothly and sets very quickly!

Ignore my wrist smudge – it applies perfectly and is a great little liner!

OLEHENRIKSEN Truth Serum ($12) This gel antiaging serum is formulated for all skin types to brighten, firm, and support collagen production. I found it hydrating while not being oily at all. I was really impressed by the unique formula and while it’s probably not the best for my drier skin, I think it would be a grail product for a lot of people – to hydrate without oiling up!

Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover ($2.20) I think this may be actually a Klorane knockoff? This bi-phase waterproof eye makeup remover uses soothing cornflower to help remove makeup without irritation. Does the job for makeup that just won’t come off (and the Sephora house brand price is great too!).

The total value this month for this variation was about $43 – a totally great value for a $10 beauty box – and contained some great products to help step up your beauty routine! I’m happy with my box but probably would have preferred an alternate variation!

Are you a Sephora Play subscriber? What did you think of the box this month??
