Show Us Your Spark is a “monthly box filled with ideas, inspiration, and items for pre-teen and teen girls,” designed to build strong girls. Spark means “self-acceptance, ready to tackle the world, being a good friend and so much more!”  Subscriptions start at $19.95/month, with discounts for multiple-month subscriptions.

I have two girls, aged 12 and 14… and I want them to be strong and ready to tackle the world, so I was definitely interested in checking out this new box. I reviewed this box with their help. This review is of their Launch Box, which seems to be September/October 2016.

Here is a peek at everything in this box. I like the cute placard affixed to the inside of the box – “I am Unique!” Also fun, the box has a bunch of tissue confetti circles! (That is, it was fun until they ended up all over the family room… then not so much…)

The first thing we noticed about Show Us Your Spark is that the information is provided on multiple little cards. The top card shows the monthly theme – “I am Unique” and some thoughts on that theme. The bottom card provides a mental “Show Us Your Spark” challenge, posing questions for the user to answer in the journal (included in this Launch Box) to learn about themselves and their friends.

The little cards are also used to describe the items, how to use them, and where to purchase them. Here is the Spark Journal – a small spiral bound notebook with the Spark logo on the cover.

Here’s a look at the inside of the journal, as well as another card – this one a journal prompt. I think this is a good idea – my diaries from when I was a tween/teen were pretty boring and not terribly introspective. (“January 5, 19xx:  Today they served mashed potatoes at lunch. I hate mashed potatoes.”) The journal prompts provide some thought-provoking queries that may get the girls’ minds churning.

If you’re going to write in a journal, you should have cool pens, right? These Gel Pens from Tutti Frutti are super fun – the ink changes color as you write and the pens are fruity scented!

Next up, some fantastic girl-power Stickers from MambiSticks. These stickers are pretty awesome – love the sayings.

Finally, a cute Spark Keychain. My tween daughter is obsessed with key chains and these little key chains with a tassel and charm are so trendy.

Based on my daughters’ reactions, Show Us Your Spark may be better for tweens than teens. My older daughter was not enthused about the contents – although she did like a few of the sayings on the stickers. We have a million journals and pens and, although the pens were fun, nothing in the box was terribly different from everyday items in our house. My younger daughter, on the other hand, thought this box was off to a good start. She liked the stickers and the gel pens… and, of course, the key chain. (Seriously, she’s obsessed with key chains.) However, this box seemed to be less interesting to both girls than some of the other tween/teen boxes they have helped me review; the items in those boxes were more fun and more “exotic” (meaning not the stuff we already have all the time). We look forward to seeing where this box goes with its monthly themed boxes.
