I was impressed by the authenticity of the recipes — they are all very classic and classy, covering starters to dessert.

Try The World September 2016 review

My snack box.  This collection was very elegant, and it certainly leaned toward gourmet ingredients and toppers than it did ready-to eat stand alone snacks.

Terrigena Mushroom Risotto Kit ($7.90):  A lovely mixture of arborio rice and porcini mushrooms — simply cook with broth to create the classic Italian starter.  The rice is specially milled to retain a firmer texture.

La Pasta di Aldo Egg Pappardelle ($6.39):  Made from only eggs and flour, this pappardelle is hung to dry and retains a chewy, porous texture, perfect for allowing sauce to cling.

Guiliano Caffe Vivace Ground Coffee ($4.70):  Italians love their deeply-roasted coffees, and Giuliano Caffe using an extended slow-roasting method to get the most flavor from their coffees.  This blend brings together a collection of “highly selected” coffees for a balanced and bold cup.

The coffee is pre-ground and suitable for use in the most common brewing methods. Try The World September 2016 (5)

Marabissi Classic Amaretti ($6.90):  Amaretto, the classic almond-flavored liqueur, is actually made from ground apricot pits.  Likewise, most Amaretti producers use apricot flour to flavor their cookies, but the Marabissi family has always used Pugliesi almonds grown in Italy to create the lovely flavor and texture of their amaretti.  The result is a sweet and deliciously moist and creamy amaretti with a lovely center that resembles a very soft marzipan.

The box contained a trio of beautiful, ready to eat condiments.

Societa Agricola Acetomodena Balsamic Vinegar ($5.76):  This flavorful vinegar is made in Modena from Lambrusco and Trebbiano grapes and aged in oak and chestnut barrels.

Cascina San Cassiano Pesto Sauce ($4.21):  The producer of this sauce is located in a former Benedictine Abbey, now a solar-powered production facility.  They use locally-sourced produce to create this cashew, pine nut, and basil sauce.

The pesto has a lovely, course texture, and you can see the richness of the mixture.

Maison della Nocciola Hazelnut Cream ($8.90):  This spread contains over 50% Piedmonte-grown hazelnuts!  Blended with cocoa butter, this spread is rich, creamy, and decadent.

Try The World September 2016 (11)

Sabatino Tartufi Truffle Zest ($2.63):  Highly-prized truffles are powdered and ready for use on pasta — blending with carob powder allows you to sprinkle freely and spread the flavor around.

The little carton contains 5 individually-sealed packets to maintain freshness serving to serving.

I calculated the value of this box to be about $47.39, which is a fantastic value when compared to the cost of a single box, especially for an imported artisanal food subscription.  I loved the quality of the items — everything was made in Italy from super-premium ingredients.  You can expect a good mix of ready to eat items and artisan ingredients to incorporate into your own dishes or the provided recipes.   It is a great gourmet food destination box that provides a real, authentic taste of the featured cuisine.
