Magnolia Post Co May 2016 Collection Review & Coupon

Magnolia Post Co is a Canadian fashion styling service. Each month there are a series of collections released and you can choose a look to order — it’s not a traditional subscription where you are billed monthly. I’ve never reviewed anything like this before — when I online shop it’s always from the same designer where the sizing is standard. I’d describe my style as vintage and retro. I can’t think of the last time I wore pants; I’m always wearing a dress!

Everything is nicely wrapped. I love the lotus flower logo.

There’s a bag of extra gifts that showcase their featured brands. The look I chose was the Paige outfit in a size M, for reference. The colours were very soft and feminine which is what attracted me. (The other outfits are super cute as well, but a bit too edgy for me.)

The outfit features a midi-length dress in a very soft knit fabric. I couldn’t get over how soft the fabric was! Unfortunately, this was where the magic ended. Knit fabric like this clings to every roll and part of me that I try to hide with structured dresses and full skirts. The outfit also features a beautiful sheer kimono wrap/shrug, which on its own was beautiful but didn’t flatter the dress at all — at least, it didn’t on me.

So it was at this point I bribed one of my friends with the promise of free clothes if she’d play model for me.

Mod Ref Knit Dress: Like I said above, this dress is so soft! It’s 96% polyester and 4% spandex so it has a nice stretch to it. Emilie (my model) would not stop talking about how soft it was to wear. It’s very fitted and hit her just below the knee (she’s 5’9″ for reference). There’s an attached liner underneath as well.

Red Lolly Kimono Shrug: This is a super sheer floral wrap top. It looks really cute with the dress, but I think it would also look great with skinny jeans and a tank top underneath, or you could probably even use it as a bathing suit cover up.

Elle Jewels Necklace: This delicate necklace features a black crystal. heart and the lotus charm that is also in Magnolia Post Co’s logo! This is a Toronto designer.

All Things Mint Hair Ties: I love hair ties like these (I have a huge jar of them!). These are from a Vancouver etsy seller.

Dermadeli Rejuvenating Toner Sample: This toner includes witch hazel, neroli, and sea kelp.

Abbey Lane Farm Lip Balm: This is tangerine-cinnamon flavoured, which tastes and feels awesome. Abbey Lane specialises in natural body care and has skincare, hair care, even perfume. They’re also from BC.

Magnolia Post Co was a perfect fit for my model but wasn’t for me. There’s no guarantee that the clothes you order are going to fit you or flatter you, and the price point is pretty high and there are no refunds.

I like that it’s not a subscription model that you need to commit to monthly, and you do get to pick your own outfit. The items are great quality (seriously, that dress was soooooo soft!) but I wouldn’t wear them. But I can see the market for this type of service, and they’re breaking ground being the first Canadian company to do it, which is really exciting.
