Love With Food Deluxe Box April 2016 box

Love with Food‘s theme for April was Love is Joy! Love With Food is a fun snack discovery subscription available in three versions: classic tasting box, deluxe/family size, and gluten-free. We purchase the Deluxe box, because we have a big family and more snacks = more fun!

Joy is an almost perfect word to describe the almost indescribable idea of love. It’s pure happiness and utter excitement. And both of those things apply to delicious snacks too, right? Obviously. This month’s box is jam-packed full of goodies that we know you won’t be able to help loving. So spread the love (and joy) around!

For 2016, each month of Love With Food will feature a “Love Is…” theme! FYI, you can see our reviews of all 3 varieties of Love With Food boxes here.

The April box was packed full of tasty snacks!

The information booklet contains both the ingredients for each item plus color-coded keys indicating which are non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegan!  Though they offer a Gluten-free box, it’s nice to have this kind of info handily starred for households with mixed dietary profiles.

There are also other promo cards included in the box.Love With Food Deluxe Box April 2016 (3)

Skeeter Nut Free All Natural Shortbread Mini Cookies

Skeeter Nut Free All Natural Double Chocolate Mini Cookies

Skeeter cookies are always tasty, and nut-free! These are perfect for my daughter to take in her lunchbox when she wants to sit with a friend at the peanut-free lunch table.

Love With Food Deluxe Box April 2016 (4)

Laiki Black Rice Crackers: These are interesting and unusual – I’ve had them a couple times but they’re tasty and different and just made with black rice, oil, and salt.

Love With Food Deluxe Box April 2016 (5)

Honey Stinger Gluten Free Organic Cinnamon Waffle: A new variety! This one’s gluten free and full of carbs, carbs, and more carbs! Organic carbs! These were a really huge hit and we all wanted more!

Love With Food Deluxe Box April 2016 (6)

Bali’s Best Green Tea Latte Candy: I’m not a fan of tea, and my husband isn’t a fan of green tea, so we’re passing these on to a friend. While we don’t care for them, they have a serious cult following!

Love With Food Deluxe Box April 2016 (7)

Pasta Chips Rosemary Flavor: I’m 99% sure that this new flavor launched exclusively in Love With Food. I love Pasta Chips and I ate the whole bag!

Rhythm Superfoods Roasted Kale Smokey Bacon: These were weird on several fronts. First of all, they’re bacon-flavored, yet vegan. Also, instead of curly kale it’s lacinato kale, so it was flat and flakey.  It was interesting to try, but we didn’t finish the container.

Here’s what the Roasted Kale looks like. I was impressed that they all arrived intact.

Love With Food Deluxe Box April 2016 (8)

Nutryttiva Banana Bar: These are made with just bananas and lime juice! Both my and my 5 year old love them – we’re both crazy about anything banana.

Love With Food Deluxe Box April 2016 (9)

Nature’s Bakery Raspberry Fig Bar: These are one of my favorite snacks and I was excited to get them in single serving snack sizes – they’re perfect for keeping in your desk for a mid-day snack attack when you want sweets but the stone ground whole wheat brings down the glycemic load by just a touch.

Love With Food Deluxe Box April 2016 (10)

Boulder Canyon Coconut Oil Kettle Chips: I was really excited to try these – I love kettle chips and coconut oil. What could go wrong?! Unfortunately neither me nor my husband were impressed. I tried the second bag hoping to like them better, but they were a no-go for me.

This wasn’t my favorite box from Love with Food, but we generally love most months. It provides a lot of variety at not that much cost (we subscribe to an annual plan). Our must-buys from this box are Nature’s Bakery single-serving. They’re really good (and if you’re wondering, the TJ’s newtons don’t even come close to these).

If you’re looking for a longer subscription, use coupon code HELLOSUB20 to save $20 off any 12 month plan! (That’s $6.32/box for tasting, $14.83/box for deluxe, and $18.32/box for gluten-free). As always, Love With Food donates meals to charity with each box purchased. You can also save 50% on your first Gluten-Free box by using this link.

We’re totally different in our tastes in snacks. This box has just about convinced me to not renew when my subscription is up in September. The thing I really loved is the tea candy – immediately cashed in some of my points for more. I don’t like pasta chips all that much and especially don’t like rosemary, so that was a no go. The black rice crackers I’ve had before – not bad, not anything special. Haven’t ventured into the kale yet, but it sounds rather odd. I may be the only person around who doesn’t like the stroopwaffel things – they’re way too sweet and limp for me. The ones I got are salted caramel flavor, which I found grainy and not really salated caramel tasting. My grandson will get one, although he’s not fond of honey (ok, so the whole family is weird). Don’t like bananas, didn’t taste any lime in the bar. He gets the second one of those, too. The double chocolate cookies were pretty good, but the shortbread ones left a lot to be desired. I don’t think raspberry (which I like) adds anything good to fig bars (which I don’t much care for), so another one for the grandson. But I actually liked the potato chips, and I’m not big on kettle chips at all.

Just an update to day that kale is even odder than it sounded. I didn’t taste any bacon flavor, just smoke, and the kale was so bitter that I didn’t even bother to finish one piece. I was hoping to like it, but it may be the single worst thing I’ve ever gotten in a boxx
