Beauteque offers two subscriptions featuring Asian beauty products delivered to your door monthly.  Products include makeup, skin care, body care, and more.  For $24 per month, your BB Bag comes with 6-8 full size products.  If you like masks, the Mask Maven subscription brings you 9-11 various masks monthly starting at $15.  The following is a review of the March Mask Maven, whose theme is GOOD ENERGY GARDEN:  Uplift Your Spirits and Skin.

On a Side Note:  Before trying any Asian cosmetic subscription, expect that most information on the package will be in the native language.  That said, more and more brands are including directions/ingredients in English, and information can also be found in English on the majority of brands’ websites (you may have to choose a brand’s global or US site).  Secondly, a large number of products focus on brightening or whitening the skin.  As a person of color, I have not seen my skin color change.  Instead, I’ve experienced that my skin tone gets evened out after prolonged use.  However, your results may be different.  And lastly, many products contain ingredients which are animal-derived, so these may not be an option if you are vegan.  You can also check out cosDNA.com to see if the ingredients for the product are listed there.

The information card has an explanation of each item’s purpose and key ingredients.  For some products, there are also basic how to use directions.  Here’s the note from the front of the information card:

This month’s mask selections.

20160331_010429

Missha Pure Source Lotus Flower Mask ($1.99):  Not a lot of information for this particular mask online or on the Missha site.  The mask is formulated to brighten (soothe irritation) and moisturize skin.  It is compacted with cell fabric to ensure maximum absorption of essence.

My Beauty Diary Rose Essence Moisturizing Mask ($1.99):  This contains quite a few different extracts including rose flower, witch hazel leaf, licorice root, gingko biloba leaf, orange, lemon, and raspberry.  The rose essence in the mask works hydrate dry skin and calm irritated skin.  Since I don’t have dry skin, and don’t like rose scented products, this will be gifted.

Botanic Farm Natural Energy Mask – Ginseng ($2.20):   This mask contains ginseng extract and adenosine, which provide adequate nutrition to skin and reduces wrinkles by increasing circulation.  The anti-aging properties of ginseng strengthen the elasticity of skin for a more youthful appearance.  It is also a great toner and lightens dark circles after a tiring day at work or school.  The price for this mask varied a few cents between Beauteque and Botanic Farm.

Botanic Farm Natural Energy Mask – Tea Tree ($2.20):  In addition to tea tree, this mask also contains grapefruit, sage, honeysuckle, and gingko biloba leaf extracts.  Use this mask to calm irritated skin and restore cleanliness.  I really like masks with tea tree for minor breakouts – usually when I’m stressed out.  Surprisingly, this mask was not listed on the Botanic Farm site.

20160331_010347 Prelab Skin Energy Mask – Aqua Energy ($2.99):  This mask uses several moisturizing ingredients commonly found in K-beauty treatments – trehalose, sodium hyaluronate, and allantoin.  They are used to quench dry skin, treat fine lines and wrinkles, and help soften rough skin. The sheet itself is made from 100% natural fiber derived from botanical plants.

Prelab Skin Energy Mask – Soothing Energy ($2.99):  This link actually takes you to Memebox because I was not shipped the formula that was on the information sheet or in the Beauteque Shop (Wrinkle Energy). And oooo FOMO Mask box (but I digress!).  This sheet mask uses propolis extract, tea tree oil, aloe vera and deep sea water to soothe sensitive skin.  The sheet itself is made from 100% natural fiber derived from botanical plants.

Mizon Enjoy Vital-Up Time Nourishing Mask – Nourish Your Rough Skin ($2.25):  Prices for this mask varied across sites, with some (including Target.com) selling for as much as $3.50!  This new mask line from Mizon is made with avocado extract which is known to even out the texture of rough skin.  Its rich nutrient content helps moisturize skin and provide a renewed glow.  This features the same key moisturizing ingredients as the Aqua Energy mask above.

Dermal Charcoal Collagen Essence Mask ($1.90): Dermal Collagen Essence Masks are sheet masks covered in a formula containing collagen, moisturizers, and other important skin ingredients to keep your skin looking young and radiant.  The charcoal mask is supposed to help remove impurities from the skin, while collagen and vitamin E firm and nourish.  This has a nice floral scent, and unlike most of the other charcoal masks I’ve used, was not a black sheet mask.  It has a nice cooling effect while being worn.

The Face Shop Cherry Cherry Lips Modeling Lip Patch ($5.50):  This was in several of the spoilers Beauteque released, and I just couldn’t wait to try it!  This soft jelly patch is made with cranberry and cherry extract to nourish, moisturize, and keep lips hydrated.  I know my lips feel a little cracked, but this is literally cracked.  It seemed to have been damaged in transit.  Before putting the mask on, you are told to do some lip yoga exercises – basically pull your lips inward and open your mouth with a popping sound.  This mask is insanely large and didn’t smell or taste like cherry.  It also doesn’t stick, so you have to lie down while wearing it or it slips off your face.  My lips felt smoother after using this, but by the next day were back to normal.

Whose lips are naturally this big/full?!?

This bag is valued at $24, covering more than the monthly cost of the subscription and shipping.  I love pampering myself with masks.  Although this month’s theme didn’t really work for my skin, several friends and family members enjoyed getting a little treatment that gave them an excuse to take some “me” time.    I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially on the lip mask.  Please leave a comment below.
