20160401_165747Shine On!  April’s Julep Maven focused on vivid sheer colors – bright colors with a gel-like finish.  Julep Maven is Julep’s monthly beauty subscription – nails and more!  This subscription is great because it’s customizable – swap out products and colors from a set box and choose from Julep’s best sellers, or choose a pre-curated box.  If you’re not a subscriber, you can get a free welcome box with a prepaid subscription (or 50% off if you choose a month to month subscription).  Get a savings of $5 per month if you prepay for 3 months!  Julep is skippable and giftable, so I’d recommend the longer term.

And here’s my box.  As you can see, it’s pretty full!  Well, you really can’t see, I guess.  But it is packed to the brim.

Unpacked!  Now to play.  I had to take a sec to mention this month’s quote.  It is so fitting for Julep.

I switched up my regular box so that I could have more of the colors that I wanted from this month’s collection.  I really love that I can customize my box to get exactly what I want.  About the vivid sheers featured this month – “one coat, and you get a juicy wash of color. One coat layered over white, amps the look totally.”  Contents of this month’s box:

Marissa (Boho Glam):  Electric clover flower vivid sheer.  This is in line with the orchid shades that were all the rage last spring.  The formulation is thinner/runny, so don’t overload your brush or this will pool on your nail.

Kimball (Wonder Maven):  High-voltage watermelon vivid sheer.   This color falls into the fuchsia family.  Same notes on the formula as Marissa.

Brigitte (Classic with a Twist):  Bright white crème.  This was a free add-on for the vivid sheers.  When used as a base, you can see the true color of the vivid sheers from this month’s collection.

Silver Nail Studs:  Silver arrowhead-shaped nail decals.  These are smaller than they look and a little hard to put on, but have an edgy effect on a finished nail.

Kaolin Clay Konjac Sponge:    I have been using Julep’s charcoal konjac sponge for a while now and actually needed to replace mine, so this came at the perfect time.  The sponge is made from the roots of the konjac plant and enriched with kaolin clay which helps to detoxify skin by drawing out impurities.  I like that these provide light exfoliation and can be used alone or with my face wash.

Now for all of the extras outside my Maven box:

Shanna (Bombshell):  Botanical violet vivid sheer.  This is similar to Marissa, but closer to a true purple.  This has the same thin formula as the other sheers.

Love Your Bare Face:  A blend of natural oils and fruit enzymes that remove dirt, oil, and impurities while gently exfoliating for a deep-down clean.  J used this and said it reminded her of a bar soap.  It wasn’t overly drying, but if you have dry skin, you will need a moisturizer afterwards.  To get a good lather, really rub the stick over your hands to build a layer of product.

Surf’s Up Mystery Trio:  I am absolutely certain that the two blue/teal shades are in this trio.  I guessed on the third, but it was the only one that made sense.  You’ll need 2 coats of each of these shades for maximum opacity.

  • Cassidy (Bombshell):  Bondi blue crème.  Seeing visions of a clear, sunny day with this shade.
  • Becca (Boho Glam):  Viridian tide shimmer.  This reminded me of a mermaid’s tail.
  • Lulu (Classic with a Twist):  Wisteria mist soft focus (semi-matte).  This is a VERY light lavender.  I thought it should be part of the trio because it made me think of whitecaps on waves.  If you don’t like matte finishes, use a top coat over this.

Amanda (Classic with a Twist): Pink dahlia crème.  This was my free gift for having 3 or more add-ons.  A perfect dark pink for spring and summer.  This formula is very opaque, and you could get away with one coat coverage.

Air Heads Candy – Green Apple:   Just because.  Julep has a habit of giving you something sweet with each order.  J ate this immediately – she loves apple flavored candy.

Some pics to give you an idea of how the colors looks on.
