The theme for March is Memory. Reading the letter on the side of the box sets the mood.

Memory goes backward and forward in time. As in, “Remember that time we…” and “Don’t forget to…” Memory encapsulates our nostalgia for the past, our plans and dreams moving forward, and those pesky little to-dos that will get us there.

Time to look at the mini-version!

The item for the March Benefit Basket is the Mr. Ellie Pooh Elephant Journal. Longtime subscribers may recall receiving the journal in the July 2015 Artisan Box.

GlobeIn Signature Palm Leaf Basket from Oaxaca, Mexico ($12)  is made from discarded palm leaves and may take up to six hours to weave. I’m always amazed by the baskets. I will be using this basket to store eye droppers and other miscellaneous items that I use when working with essential oils.

I did not know that elephants recognize themselves in mirrors. It is fascinating that their diet is what allows their dung to be made into paper products.

The Mr. Ellie Pooh Journal (S15.00) is crafted from raw cellulose found in elephant poop. My husband was fascinated by this concept and kept sniffing the notebook. There is no odor!

The notebook is 50 pages and is unique with the texture feeling almost like linen.

I find it to be a fun gift to give to people. How many people can claim to write on elephant dung paper and protecting wild elephants by giving their dung a commercial value? My 7 year old will be using this notebook. He loves the idea of writing on poop.
