Sprouting Threads is a subscription styling service for kids about ages 2 to 8 – just like Stitch Fix, except for kids! You set your kid’s profile online (sizing, etc), and the clothes arrive for your child to try on. Sprouting Threads generates a detailed style profile for your child based on images of clothing that you can say you love, like, or don’t like. When you receive your box, keep what you want and return the rest. There is a $20 styling fee that can be credited toward a purchase of two or more new items. It’s like Stitch Fix for kids!
This box is for our almost 7 year old daughter. She has a great whimsical style and is round, which makes shopping for her difficult. We gave Sprouting Threads the info when we signed up.
The service has a high-end feel to it, from the little details on the packaging…
…to the care with which is is packed…
…to the customized touches, and, of course, the quality of the clothes. The items in this box are all higher-end boutique brands. You can choose to get half reThreads (gently worn clothing). Sprouting Threads has an easy returns process and also offers the reThread service, so you can recycle your gently-worn clothes and receive some credit on future orders.
Go Gently Horse Dress ($52) I knew when I pulled this out of the box that my daughter would be totally in love with it! It has a horse so it’s an auto-win for a 6 year old. I also noticed that the styling was perfect for her shape! She wore this to school today paired with the joggers below.
After we were done trying on clothes this one went right back on!
Blu Pony Vintage Dress ($48) What a cute style! I answered my daughter’s questionnaire with both her preferences and mine in mind, and we both loved this! It fit great and looked super cute. I liked how Sprouting Threads selected a style that would look good on her and fit right. Last year when I bought her holiday dress it was the wrong style, which necessitated emergency Christmas dress shopping. Now we’re totally good to go (except for fancy shoes!).
JoahLove Heart Print Quilted Tunic ($52) The cut of this one was frankly quite odd when I pulled it out! I loved the quilted top, and I knew my daughter would auto-love the print on the tunic, but I wasn’t sure about the cut at all.
Joah Love Faux Leather Leggings ($38) Ahhhh these are SO cool! They add a fun touch and definitely match the profile we filled out. The fit was great and there is some room to grow in these.
The top turned out great – and she was so silly and cute. My husband and I ended up snapping a photo at the exact same moment!
Since my daughter has told me that in first grade we don’t use the word potty, we use the word bathroom, I’m sure that this slightly more mature look suits her just fine. 🙂
Tea Collection Graphic Bird Tee ($24.50) I love this color on her! We sent photos of the kids to Sprouting Threads and we were delighted to see everything match their coloring. I love Tea Collection everything and this shirt is fun and unique.
Deux par Deux Joggers ($28) Another great choice for my round daughter – these are baggier on the top than on the bottom. They absolutely paid attention to every word I said about her being hard to fit. My daughter especially loved these because they have pockets.
Lots of room to move in these, even though they’re a wooden fabric! She’s so cute!
Tea Collection Marina Henley Top ($39) I love love love this interpretation of the ditsy floral print. My mother in law buys my daughter what I like to call “Holly Hobbie” clothes (ditsy florals out of the 80s, which I don’t like). This was completely different! You can roll the sleeves up or keep them down.
Mimi & Maggie Jeans ($48) When I saw these I was certain they wouldn’t fit. They are jeans. I can’t buy her jeans normally because the plus size jeans are too big (we have tried every brand and gone two sizes down, etc.) and the regular sizes don’t fit at all. What can I say – she inherited my rear end. We were both excited that they fit – this outfit is perfect for fall, and she’s so adorable.
Perfect to go with that wild shaggy hair!
The box comes with a return mailer, a form to leave feedback, your invoice, plus a list of brands that they accept clothing from for their Rethreads service.
I couldn’t have been happier with this box and it wildly exceeded my expectations in terms of fit. I expected the clothes to be cute boutique-style clothes (we’ve reviewed Sprouting Threads in the past), but I hadn’t expected everything to really fit her well. Boutique children’s clothes aren’t for every family for sure but they apparently work really well for my child! I was also excited that my daughter and I both loved all the clothes – and they were less cutesy than the typical clothes for her that we buy (good in both our opinions) – and all the fabrics were of a nicer quality too. Everything was seasonally appropriate, which was fantastic. I’m looking forward to trying out the Rethreads service sometime. I hear it’s very popular and that they have been searching for more Rethreads! They take anything in good condition on their brands list (see the details on their site) and you get credit on your account for ~20-30% of the original purchase price, which is way better than similar services!
