ipsy september 2015 bag

The Ipsy theme for September is “Face Fashion.” Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription – get 5 items in a cute bag for $10 a month! It’s the most popular subscription box (even though it’s a bag) with over 1.3 million subscribers and 100k new ones monthly. If you’re an Ipsy fan, be sure to watch for my monthly spoiler posts – I pick one reader randomly from the comments as my referral link for most of the month. Several of the past winners were able to load up on bonus items! Ipsy always comes in a cute pink mailer bag!

ipsy september 2015 review

Everything in my bag for September!ipsy september 2015 IMG_8468

GlamGlow FlashMud Brightening Treatment ($20.29) I had to totally calculate that twice but yes, this is around one third the size of the full size, which is $69. Pricey! This is a fast acting brightening and tone evening mask. I am really excited to try it out and test the results – if it helps even my skin tone I would totally purchase the full size. I think this about 3 applications so it’s a nice trial to see if their claims hold true.  And tons of value! I hit the jackpot.

Temptu Highlighter in Champagne Shimmer ($6.88) I love this product! You can use it straight for highlighting or mix it in with foundation for a subtle glow. Even though this isn’t full size, this teeny bottle lasts me forever! I didn’t take a photo of the card that comes with this, but it mentioned the Temptu makeup airbrush system. It seemed scary and exciting all at once! I would love to try it, but I’m not sure about buying it!

Pixi by Petra Mini Brow Trio Shades Shades of Brow ($3?) This is a teensy weensy brow trio and I was definitely unimpressed by the size mostly because it’s a little hard to maneuver in there.  Please let me know what you think of yours in the comments – since I just got a brand new full size brow item I’m passing this one on.

Soap Not Radio The Phoenix Revitalization Hand/Body Lotion – Persimmon + Plum ($1.68) What a lovely brand to appear in Ipsy! Now that they’ve raised a kajillion dollars in venture capital funding I would sure like to see more things like this in my bag! My hand lotion tube at the computer is out – so I am swapping out for this great smelling lotion.

City Color City Chic Lipstick in One Night Stand ($5)  This is a fun color! It’s somewhat of a drugstore brand but that’s ok. You should expect a mix of indie, drugstore, and sometimes high end items in your bag.

This was a good bag – but as I mentioned above with all that money coming in I really am expecting some changes to the subscription for the better. My bag had around a $37 value and the price of the subscription was worth it for the GlamGlow alone. I typically do not use every item that comes in my bags but the value is good enough that it doesn’t seem to matter!

My favorite item this month turned out to be the NYX eye shadow palette. The one I would most have liked to try was the Queen of the Fill. Unfortunately I received it in light, so I am trading that. But all in all, I loved my bag!

I have been looking forward to reading your review because we were twins this month!

I didn’t think about mixing the highlighter in with foundation or an extra glow, what a great tip! I have never used a brow powder before so I was excited to test this out. I was a little surprised with the small size of the sample but was able to use manuver and test it out, I was happy with the results. I did receive a different shade of the lipstick, I thought the formula and color were great! I wish every could have received the Glam Glow because this product seems to be pretty amazing. I feel fortunate to have had the chance to test it out!

For the 4th month in a row I am a very happy Ipsy customer!

I am loving the Glam Glow too! I have actually ended up purchasing as many full size products from my Ipsy bags as my Birchboxes! I have been waiting for you to come back and tell me your thoughts!! I am glad to hear that the Petra is good. I searched the lipstick in my video. I wanted to show the little imprint before I swatched 😉

I received a completely different bag this month. I’d have loved to get the GlamGlow mask. You’re the only person I’ve seen who received it. I got the NYX palette, a cream blush, a lip crayon, bayberry moisturizer, and Vasanti cleanser. Overall, I’m happy with what I got. The cream blush is so small I can’t figure out how to apply it though. lol

I received the lipstick that is a very pretty mauve-ish shade (can’t remember the color), the Nyx eye trio palette in the neutral shades, Queen of the Fill eyebrow gel, Ultra Repair hand cream (smells decent) and lastly the Octavio Argan oil. Unfortunately the Argan oil presented a problem, it open up in transit and was spilled out all inside the bag and on everything in it, even the bag absorbed the oil so it is unusable 🙁 . I was sad about this because I would have loved to try it on my hair. I do however really like the lipstick and the hand cream is handy for beside my bed for nighttime moisturizing. I would have loved to have received the Glam Glow but alas it was not to be. Hope next month I have better luck.

Hi Martha, I had the same bag as yours and mine spilled as well. Luckily for me it wasn’t a huge spill like yours was. Have you tried contacting Ipsy’s customer service? They offer to replace any products that you feel were too damaged in the spill to be sampled. HTH! That’s what I did with mine.

I was wondering how they were recently able to get rid of the wait list for new subscribers, when I signed up I waited two months and I’m glad I did I really like them and this month I really like the makeup bag they sent out

I got a totally different bag from you this month except for the lotion. I still haven’t blogged mine yet since things have been crazy here but I got the lotion, the NYX shadow palette, city color mascara, Jcats eyeliner, and Trust Fund polish. Fun and useful bag but again nothing exciting. I would have loved the Glamglow. I’ve never gotten any and tried it.

I usually get many of the same items you do, but this month all of mine are different than yours! I got the NYX ipsy eye shadow trio, Evelyn Iona cream blush in Ash (a bit pale, but a nice color), J Cat Beauty waterproof eye liner pencil in bronze (despite my repeated reviews telling them that I don’t use eye liner), the Crown Brush concealer brush (hooray! not another eye shadow brush for a change!), and a big pack of Acure argan oil cleansing towelettes. Everything except the eye liner pencil is good this month, and I like the little bag, so well worth the $10. I’ve lost count of the extras I’ve gotten with the points from your drawing, but I’m still working on spending them all. Too doggone many eye liner pencils and lip gloss and such for my taste in their latest points deals. I got a few for my daughter for Christmas/birthday gifts (her birthday is the day after Christmas), but there’s a limit to how many she needs.

You’re the only one I’ve seen so far who got the glamglow sample…

I received the Glam Glow in my bag. So far I have applied once and was REALLY impressed with the results!

I re-subbed this month in the hope of getting that GlamGlow, but alas, denied. So I cancelled again. Ipsy just never seems to get it right for me–there was usually only one item in the bag that I liked, and I figured that I’d have better luck taking that $10 and buying one or two drugstore items that I know will work for me. I’ll be watching them to see what they do with this influx of funding. Hopefully it won’t all go to the TV commercials I’ve been seeing a lot more of lately.

Well, I’ve got to hand it to Phan for building an $800 million company (holy cow, that seems crazy to me) out of $3 million in funding. And as much as I hate certain elements of their marketing strategy (I was trying to be charitable and not call it bribing/coercing customers into doing their social media advertising for them, but I guess I failed), it has turned out to be pretty effective.
