My Pretend Place is all about learning, dress-up, and adventure, including DIY adventures. My Pretend Place offers a quarterly themed pretend play and dress up subscription box for children aged 3-6. They also have a monthly Play Pretend Projects subscription! This box is designed for kids ages 3-8, with a great monthly project, including all the supplies for two children.
One of the things I love best is that there are always enough supplies for two kids to participate every month. This month, the kids have two projects: decorating their own chef’s outfits, and making “cookies” from modeling dough.
My daughter also really digs the pretend letter. This months’ letter invited the kids to join a cooking competition.
The box always comes with a few stickers and a handle to help decorate the shipping box.
Chef Apron & Hat: The kit comes with two sets of aprons (dentist bib material) and paper chef’s hats. Crayons are provided, but you can always add your own flair if desired. The hats have and adhesive strip to hold them at the right size, but some paper clips are thrown in for good measure, as the adhesive wears out eventually. The aprons are nice and small — they fit easily around big kids but won’t trip up a smaller child.
The instructions are simple — decorate the stuff!
No-Cook Play-Dough: The second activity is A handy recipe for homemade play dough is included, as well as four cookie cutters.
Hat decoration is pretty straightforward — just have an adult help with sizing the hats once they are ready to wear.
The cookie cutters double as stencils.
Hard at work.
My daughter has developed a unique style for this kind of project — I think she may launch a chef’s wear line in the future!
Ready to cook!
We mixed up half a batch of the recipe provided, and we went easy on the food coloring to minimize the destructive potential.
We still had enough dough for each kid to make a bunch of cookies.
It cut pretty well and had a decent consistency. It wasn’t too crumbly and re-rolled easily.
The monthly box relies heavily on kid-fueled imagination — there is not a whole lot to them, but the kids certainly have a great time with it. This box was better than last month’s pirate box, because it had a more complete, hands-free costume and a hands-on activity to do once costumed.
