hamptons lane taco party box

Hamptons Lane is a fantastic foodie/gourmet subscription box perfect for everyone who loves to eat well and likes to have a hand in preparing their food. It doesn’t just deliver a few tasty morsels — Hamptons Lane curated boxes are great because they usually have some cool kitchen gadgets that enable you to recreate the deliciousness again and again.  You get the equipment, the guidance, and some tasty gourmet accompaniments too! Skip any box if you don’t like the theme, or swap it out for a past box, like this one.

There’s a great fold-out full color brochure in each box (it’s now even better as a booklet – see our review of the newest box – Gatsby Cocktail Party). The information sheet gives all the details on each item and where it was produced.

Along with recipes. Most importantly this one gave details on how to use the tortilla press.

Roasted Tomatillo Salsa from D.L. Jardine’s ($6.99):  Fans of real Mexican and Southwestern food know that the green sauce is superior to the red, and tomatillo is the key to a green sauce.  Roasting lends a rich flavor to the slightly tart and citrusy tomatillo.

Margarita Salt with Chipotle Chiles from Salt Traders ($12):  The huge crystals are impressive to behold.  I would recommend giving a gentle crush with a pan prior to applying to your favorite glass or dish.

La Menchaca Fajita Seasoning ($5) This is from a San Antonio based family owned spice store!  This contains some MSG, which, despite the reputation, occurs in nature and cannot be beat as a tenderizer and flavor enhancer.

Tortillas de la Tierra Organic Blue Corn & White Corn Masa Harina ($7):  I made some of the white corn to serve fish tacos in.  Incredibly simply to make (when you have a press), fresh is the ONLY way to go with corn tortillas.  Store bought are rubbery and tasteless compared to the tender quality of fresh.  This is one food item where the food snobs are absolutely correct and not overstating their case.

Imusa 6.5” Cast Aluminum Tortilla Press ($19.99):  Easy to use and doesn’t even get dirty when plastic wrap is employed as suggested.  Comes with the simple recipe for tortillas (3 ingredients).  Excluding the recommended hour of rest time, you can be eating your tender, fresh tortillas with less than five minutes of prep time.

I love the simple, but high-quality gadgets that come in Hamptons Lane.  They always include some condiments and necessaries to minimize the food shopping required to put them to good use.  Best of all, the tools are great quality and become part of your pantry arsenal.
