Pixie Soy Wax Candle ($40 from Vellabox) Pixie isn’t just the name of this bright citrus candle scent, it’s also the name of a tangerine that grows in the Ojai Valley of California. That’s the predominant note in this candle, along with prickly pear and solar musk to round it out. To my nose it is soft, sweet, and fruity, and if there is musk it’s not strong at all, although there is an overall cozy and warm feeling in the scent, a hint of woods. This candle is made with soy wax and should burn for up to 80 hours.
The bonus item for June is also perfect for summer, since it’s a Citronella Balm ($10 from Vellabox) meant for keeping pesky bloodsuckers away. It’s a simple blend of coconut oil, almond oil, beeswax, and citronella oil and can be applied to wrists, neck, elbows, and behind the knees. The June 2025 Vellabox candle was light and fruity, which is something I want in a candle scent during the summer. While the scent throw wasn’t far, it smelled lovely when I stood next to the burning candle.
