The theme for the September Simply Earth Essential Oil Box was Everyday Essentials and came with instructions on how to make my own deodorant, natural perfume, body butter, and more. Simply Earth aims to help teach subscribers how to make their own beauty products and cleaning items. Read on to see what it’s all about!

Basil Essential Oil ($14.99) Basil is an herb that I reach for again and again while cooking, but it turns out the oil can help with scalp issues and aid digestion. It has a warm, sweet scent with a hint of anise.
Focus Essential Oil Blend ($15.99) Our blend for the month is made of up frankincense, orange, eucalyptus, and cardamom essential oils. It’s supposed to help improve concentration and may help one feel centered. It smells strong and sweet.
Dark Patchouli Essential Oil ($12.99) I know people either love it or hate it, but I am on Team Patchouli. It smells earthy and rich, with a hint of muskiness. It may help keep skin young and of course is used in perfumery.
Rosemary Essential Oil ($12.99) Rosemary is popular in natural products that promote hair growth. It smells strong and uplifting, like fresh crushed rosemary needles.

The extras for this month include Perfumer’s Alcohol, Zinc Oxide ($3.99), and a plastic Deodorant Tube. They will help us complete our recipes, along with the oils, items from the Big Bonus Box, and some other items that may need to be purchased separately if you don’t already have them in your home.

I received a prescored sticker sheet so I can label my EO bottles and finished projects.

Every month we receive six recipe cards with instructions on how to complete each project. You can also check out Simply Earth’s YouTube page to see videos of the projects being made!

Some of the recipe cards have additional information on the back, like what’s coming next month or a bit about the current box.
Below are a few of the projects that I completed with this month’s essential oils and extras!

I recently reviewed the Simply Earth DIY Perfume Kit and I’m so glad that monthly subscribers get to try it out on a smaller scale thanks to this month’s recipe box! As always I gathered my supplies first. I needed the perfumer’s alcohol and two essential oils from this month’s box, plus a spray bottle (which I happened to have on hand, but subscribers might need to buy their own bottles, containers, etc.).

All I had to do was add the oils to the bottle, swirl it around, add the perfumer’s alcohol, swirl some more, and then place the sprayer. Then I labeled the bottle and that’s it! By the way, this bottle is way too big for the finished project but it’s all I had on hand. This scent was full of patchouli with a hint of orange and something woody. It doesn’t last as long as conventional perfume but then again, we don’t really know what ingredients or chemicals go into a traditional perfumer’s “proprietary blend”. I must say though, patchouli can last for quite a long time before wearing off.

For the Greenhouse Room Spray, I used the perfumer’s alcohol, my new essential oils, distilled water, and yet another bottle that I had on hand.

Like the perfume above, I dropped in the oils, the perfumer’s alcohol, and the distilled water. I labeled it, gave a good shake, and then spritzed it around the room knowing that this doesn’t have any questionable ingredients with 10+ letters that are unknown to me and that I can’t even pronounce.

I am a big fan of diffusing essential oils and so I followed the recipe to make the Wild Herbs Diffuser Blend by adding the drops and some water to my diffuser and then I turned it on, that’s it! This is a great combination and if you want to make a master blend then you can follow the instructions at the bottom of the card to add a lot of drops of oil to a 5ml amber bottle, which comes in the Big Bonus Box you will receive when becoming a new subscriber (and you will continue to receive another BBB after every six boxes).

Time to make our monthly roll-on! I appreciate that Simply Earth sends not only a new diffuser recipe every month, but also a new roll-on recipe too! I placed the required essential oils in a glass roll-on bottle, swirled them around, topped with fractionated coconut oil, and then popped the roller-ball in place. Don’t forget to label the finished project! The roller-ball and coconut oil both came in the Big Bonus Box.

What a wonderful scent this leaves behind, it’s almost minty! Roll it on before tackling a project and see if it helps improve concentration!

The final project that I made was the Apothecary Body Butter. I grabbed the essential oils and zinc oxide (which were in this month’s box); solid coconut oil, almond oil, and beeswax (which are from the Bog Bonus Box); and a glass jar (which previously held diced pimentos!).

I melted the coconut and almond oils together with the beeswax in 15-second increments in the microwave (probably 2 minutes tops is all it took). I stirred in the essential oils, then mixed in the zinc oxide, and finally poured it into the glass jar. I placed it in the refrigerator until it set, overnight might be best. I placed the label on the jar and now I have a soothing butter to rub onto dry or irritated skin. It smells warm and woody, and melted upon contact.
I am always excited when my monthly Simply Earth Recipe Box shows up! I get a kick out of trying new diffuser blends using my new oils, and mixing them with oils I’ve received in previous boxes. I also like making my own beauty, cleaning, and wellness products, depending on what the focus is on in any given month. As you can probably see from my review, I especially liked making my own Everyday Essentials, such as the perfume, room spray, and soothing body butter. The only project I didn’t attempt was the one for deodorant, because I live in hot, humid Texas and I have no plans to switch from my current store-bought product. Each recipe that I tried was easy to make and had excellent results, which of course boosts my confidence in making my own products and using them safely!

Simply Earth is a monthly subscription that sends high-quality essential oils along with recipes and ingredients to make natural beauty and home products! Each box comes with 4 essential oils, containers, extra ingredients to make the recipes, and 5 – 7 recipes on recipe cards.
