If you’ve read my reviews before then you know I think Simply Earth Essential Oil Box is a great way to learn about using essential oils. Simply Earth just released a brand new Essential Oil DIY Perfume Kit and I was thrilled to give it a try, especially since I love wearing fragrances all the time! I received everything I needed to make three 50ml bottles of natural perfume in no time at all – no DIY skills or previous experience with essential oils needed! Read on to see what it’s all about!

Here’s everything that came in the box! The glass bottles came in brown boxes that can be reused if you plan to gift your creations.

I received three glass bottles, an 8 ounce bottle of perfumer’s alcohol (which is made of ethyl alcohol, as opposed to rubbing alcohol, which is made of isopropyl alcohol), test strips, labels, an instruction card, and a funnel.

I placed a drop of Vanilla Woods essential oil on the top strip, a drop of Lava essential oil on the middle strip, and a drop of each on the bottom strip. Vanilla Woods is a blend of Peru balsam, benzoin, and vanilla oleoresin essential oils, and it has a warm, cozy scent that smells of vanilla and a hint of smoke. Lava is a blend of grapefruit, blood orange, Ho wood, and sandalwood essential oils and it has a sunny, uplifting citrus smell. Both of these blends are made of pure essential oils. These aren’t fragrance oils, which is what you would find in traditional perfumes and colognes.

For the first perfume, I simply poured the correct number of essential oil drops into the bottle and then topped it with the perfumer’s alcohol.

I replaced the sprayer into the bottle, capped it, and gave it a good shake.

Then I placed the label on the bottle and that my friends is all it took to make a bottle of my very own perfume! I will admit, it was a bit harder to make the Vanilla Woods perfume but I have a trick to pass on. Vanilla Woods is a very thick oil and it wouldn’t come out of the dropper at all. I tried rubbing it between my hands, soaking it in warm water, and placing it between my elbow to warm it up but none of that helped at all. I decided to take the end of the perfume sprayer, the part that touches the bottom of the perfume bottle when it’s in place, and stuck it inside the opening of the Vanilla Woods essential oil bottle and that did the trick! Sometimes I had to remove it and try again but in no time I had the required number of drops and then topped with alcohol, etc., just like I did with the Lava perfume. The third scent was a blend of both Vanilla Woods and Lava and by that time I was a professional perfume maker. Seriously, I’m going to get some more bottles and perfumer’s alcohol and make my own custom scents!

Here’s my finished product! Look at how pretty they are, and each one looks slightly different due to the combination of oils. My husband said he preferred Lava, and I love that one too, because I love the smell of oranges and grapefruit. Sun-Kissed is warm and sweet, and once the citrus notes wear off you’re left with the scent of vanilla. Vanilla Woods lasted for quite a while on my skin, I could smell it lightly on my skin for a few hours afterwards. That’s also what Sun-Kissed smelled like once the citrus was gone. Lava is one that can be applied often since it faded quickly, but not before giving my mood a huge lift in the morning.

I can’t believe how easy it was to make my own perfumes, and I am super pleased with the results thanks to Simply Earth and their new DIY Perfume Kit! I have the confidence and knowledge to make my own blends in the future, and I should be able to replicate a peppermint perfume that was once carried at Whole Foods. Now I know just how easy it is to make my own products, I just need to order more bottles and alcohol. I actually had some perfumer’s alcohol leftover so I’ll dig through my supplies for a small bottle and get a head start on some new perfumes. I will make sure to use some test strips to mix and match oils before pouring though, that was a good way to get an idea of what my finished product would smell like.
