Flavour Delivered ships all the spices needed to make a complete curry meal. Every month you’ll receive a box containing all the spices, recipe cards, grocery shopping lists and other suggested accompaniments for your dinner – choose a meat, fish, or veggie subscription – or get a variety subscription of one of each!
All the spices are portioned and nicely packaged in clear tubs. They are even labelled according to whether they are to be used in the main dish or the side, to avoid confusion. It reminded us of a masala dabba – the traditional Indian spice box!
The whole contents of the box. Spices, recipes, shopping list for the three included recipes, even tea bags for the Darjeeling!
The recipes and shopping list. Kindly, the shopping list shows quantities in both metric and standard measure, for us conversion-challenged. I hope this concept continues to develop — some photos of ingredients would be great, particularly if any future installments include veg that may be unfamiliar. We grabbed three large onions, but they produced way too much onion for the recipe, and we reserved some for other uses. I’m assuming European onions are more modest in size. A photo or weight suggestion would help make sure the proportion for this and the cucumber are correct (as they also range greatly in size). We are missing a photo of the third recipe – which is for naan.
The spices have great fragrance and bright, rich color. We made versions of the two recipes using the provided spices (we bought naan from Trader Joe’s).
The finished plate made for a great meal. The flavor was deep and really nice, but not overly spicy. This was perfect — although I love spicy food, I really like it when I find a dish from a notoriously spicy cuisine (e.g. Indian, Thai, Jamaican) that showcases the subtle and complex flavors instead. The modest heat level let the quality of the other spices show through. If preparing again, I would, as suggested as an option in the recipe, puree the initial mixture to create a smooth base sauce (and then use it to make naan pizzas!). The raita was superb, as well. The coriander seed (cumin), black pepper, and paprika transformed greek yoghurt into a superbly balanced sauce. Brandy doesn’t care for cucumbers, but she loved this preparation!
