Bug Fighter Essential Oil ($11.99) As soon as I opened this one I detected one of my favorite essential oils, patchouli. Sure, there’s cedarwood and lemongrass too but they’re not the leader here, they are merely supporting cast. Obviously this blend is meant to fight off bugs, the pesky annoying type (as opposed to the viral or bacterial types, which are pesky in their own ways). Here’s a weird side effect of the extremely dry and hot summer here in Central Texas — I can’t remember the last time I saw a mosquito. No flies at my door either.

Camphor Essential Oil ($11.99) Camphor is helpful for congestion and relieves muscle aches. It can be added to a carrier oil and applied to sore arms, legs, or back. A lot of oils remind me of Vick’s and this is one of them, it’s very strong and medicinal smelling.

Pink Grapefruit Essential Oil ($12.99) Pink Grapefruit is such an uplifting scent, and it makes my mouth water (I love pink grapefruit, the actual fruit!). It’s supposed to fight cravings and support respiration.

Thyme Essential Oil ($18.99) Thyme smells herby and a bit woody, and I use the dried herb in dinner recipes all the time. It’s supposed to enhance relaxation and can be used to make cleaners (which leaves behind a lovely scent).

DIY Candle Kit, Wick Centering Tool, and Floating Wicks were the bonus items this month and are used to complete some of the recipes.

Simply Earth always includes a sheet of pre-scored stickers to place on our bottles and finished projects.

Each month we receive six new recipes to add to our collection.

Sometimes the recipes continue on the back of the cards, but mostly they list important info like what’s in the box, what’s coming next month, and more.

Below is a project I completed with this month’s recipe box and supplies!

I had a very busy month with vacation, moving my daughter back to college, and subbing pretty much full time since school started. The only project I completed was the Summer Nights Diffuser blend, which requires only that I drop in the specified oils, add water, and turn on my diffuser. I liked this blend, which starts off smelling mostly of patchouli (always a favorite) and then turns into a citrusy lemongrass scent.

Simply Earth is an easy way to discover the world of essential oils. There’s a lot of info out there, some of it questionable, but Simply Earth wants to help remove some of that mystery and helps us replace everyday items, such as skincare or cleaning supplies, with less toxic versions. I didn’t complete the candles because not only am I busy, but it’s been a record hot summer and I don’t feel like making them right now, and thanks to the complete lack of measurable rain for the past 100+ days, we don’t have a fly or mosquito problem, so I have no need for a bug-repelling lotion bar. I’m quite pleased with the diffuser blend and I’m sure I’ll get around to making the rollerball blend soon.

Above is an insert I received and below is a box opening picture.
