Kinder Beauty Box is a vegan beauty subscription box and this month’s box was focused on helping us get in a little Skin Therapy. Recently Kinder Beauty made some changes and they now let you “build your box”! They send three items chosen for everyone by Kinder, then you will get to customize two other items from a short list. You are also able to purchase add-ons that ship with your monthly box. Kinder Beauty kindly sent all of the item choices for review so the picture shown above is what I would have chosen for myself!

Everyone gets these three items!

Snow Fox Skincare Multi-Ceramide Lavender & Coconut Sleeping Mask ($48) I just want to say that I find it confusing when a moisturizer is called a mask – I think of a mask as something that can be removed, whether it’s made of clay or paper/cellulose/etc. This is a thick moisturizer that can be applied at bedtime or in the morning and to the face or the elbows or knees and other places as you see fit. It came with a mini scoop and has a rich texture that feels wonderful as it’s being applied. Some of the ingredients include glycerin, coconut oil, panthenol, and ceramides. I enjoyed using it and it didn’t feel greasy. It has a light scent of lavender thanks to an essential oil and not perfume.

Earth Harbor Oasis Deep Pore Gel Cleanser ($18) This is called deep pore cleansing yet it wasn’t super foamy, and I did require a second cleanse as my toner-soaked pad revealed leftover makeup. It’s supposed to fight acne and oily skin and inflammation. Some of the ingredients are glycerin, white willow bark extract, chlorophyll, and aloe and there’s no perfume or essential oils. It has a light, fruity-floral scent.

Dr. Botanicals Turmeric Superfood Restoring Treatment Mask ($5) This brand doesn’t wow me but the product itself was alright. It’s supposed to be used after cleansing, toning, and exfoliating so that tells me it’s supposed to provide more of a moisturizing effect (which makes sense, as it says it’s a restoring mask). However the picture on the website is confusing, because it shows someone with an opaque, clay-like mask on and this is really more like a lotion or cream. It’s also off-white, so I doubt it has much turmeric inside. It also has glycerin, sweet almond oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and lavender, and smells like lavender. Please note that the ingredients listed on the back of the product don’t match the list shown on the Kinder website (and aren’t listed at all at the brand’s website).

Choice 1: Here are the choices from category one:

Evio Beauty Pore-fect Primer ($24) I’m not a primer user so this will be shared with someone who can use it. I did give it a try though. I think I used too much (a dime-sized amount was recommended) and it felt like I was applying a moisturizer. The scent reminded me of yeasty bread! I applied my powder foundation over top and didn’t see any difference compared to when I don’t use primer (I’m not concerned about oily skin or anything like that).

Shikai CBD+ Unscented Body Lotion ($6.67) This would have been my choice item because I love body care! There is no psycho-active ingredients in here and it’s not a therapeutic level, it’s not supposed to promote better sleep or fight pain, it’s just an unscented body lotion that is soothing without feeling greasy. My skin absorbed it quickly. There’s not really any scent. Some of the other ingredients are avocado oil, shea butter, and aloe.

Choice 2: Subscribers got to choose between two hair items from kitsch or a pair of drink supplements from Copina Co.

Copina Co. Plant-Based Collagen Support Drink Blend Sticks ($5.98) These drink supplements can be consumed as is (but first mix with a plant-based milk or water) or you can mix them into coffee or tea. I tried Cocoa Calm. Both packs are supposed to boost hair, skin, and nail growth thanks to plant-based collagen and then you can choose from the version with a kick of caffeine or with a blend of herbs meant to help fight stress. I mixed the pack into some water and then used a mini whip to get it all blended (warm water would have been better). It tasted like a lightly sweetened watery chocolate milk with only a bit of an aftertaste from the monk fruit extract (which is probably not even noticeable for most people). I bet it would have been even better in coffee or already prepared hot cocoa!

Kit*Sch Recycled Plastic Small 2pc Claw Clips ($8) This would have been my choice simply because I think my daughter would like them! I have short, fine hair and don’t wear it up so items like this don’t thrill me but I have to say, these look pretty helpful. They have a matte texture and I probably could wear them as they are not super big but also not small, they are just right.

kitsch Long Diamond Bobby Pins ($12) These will also be gifted to my daughter! These bobby pins are more like jewelry for the hair, with their shiny finish and diamond shape. They come in gold, rose gold, and silver tones and add a fancy touch to something as simple as fighting flyaways.

I like that Kinder now lets you customize the box, and keep in mind that the value will depend on what choices you make but I would rather have a useful item at a lower value (like the CBD lotion) than one I can’t use at a higher value (like the primer, since I don’t use primer). Of course, if you like to try new things then you can choose items that might be different that what you use everyday, like the supplements, which are sold in a box containing several, but how will you know if you like them if you don’t try them first? Anyways, there’s a little something here for everyone. My favorite item of the box was the Snow Fox moisturizer, it goes on like a dream, and then helps keep my skin soft while I’m actually dreaming. The Earth Harbor cleanser was also worthy, I just need to pair it with a cleansing oil to make sure all of my makeup is removed. The value for the items in the box combo that I would have chosen was around $85.67, while the highest value box would have been around $107.
