The August 2022 BOXYCHARM theme was Dusk ’til Dawn and I received 5 items – most are makeup and the one item that wasn’t makeup is used to apply makeup. I was looking for a fun, WOW item. Did I get one? See below to find out!

Keep in mind that BOXYCHARM sends many box combos so your box items and value may be different than mine. There are variations in the box – see them here.

Laruce Beauty Christine Brush Set ($50) I already own this set, which came in my December Boxy Luxe shipment. It’s a set of 5 brushes, some for the eyes and some for the face, plus a cup to store them inside. They are of good quality but not super dense, which is ok for some uses, like bronzer and highlighter application. I like the handles, which have bumps that feel pretty cool in my hand.

Qveen Studio Bow Down Brow Glue ($16) I have a couple of thoughts on this item. Number 1, it’s a small container, maybe it will last for a month or so with daily use. Number 2, it’s brow glue and after applying it felt like I had dried glue on my eyebrows, which makes me want to pick it off and that will probably cost me dearly in the loss of brow hairs. It doesn’t have any color added and after applying my brows still looked pretty much the same, although I don’t think they’re going to move anytime soon.

Girlactik Metallic Eye Sparkle Shadow in Glam ($20) I watched the video on the Girlactik website to see how to apply for the best results, and I must say my results aren’t the same as the model’s (which is probably true for every beauty video I watch though). The color went on lighter than I thought it would but I tried smearing it around with my finger and it left a patchy look behind, not what I was going for. I guess I need to work on my technique or apply it in a thicker layer. Swatched below.

Beauty For Certain Deluxe Lipstick in #18 ($18) It’s kinda hard to get excited about lipstick in a bright orange plastic container unless you’re into the road construction worker aesthetic, I’m sure it has its fans. According to the very limited info from the brand’s website, this shade is described as “rose clay” but on my lips, I would call it “opaque nude peach”. It’s not flattering to my skin tone but it has a satin finish and no scent so those are its pluses. Swatched below.

Swatched on top is the Girlactik eye sparkle in Glam and below is the BFC lipstick in #18.

OPV Beauty Glow Perfect Face Palette ($34) I received this palette in Shade 1 (there were 5 color palettes available) which has “taupe bronzer, a shimmery apricot highlighter and bronze blusher” suitable for deeper skin tones. I am very pale so I don’t think these will work for my skin tone but as a reviewer, I wasn’t able to choose my palette, while subscribers get that feature. After swatching (see below) I decided the highlighter would work fine and it did, I applied it with a light hand.

Here’s the OPV palette swatched. I love the coppery glow of the blush but that’s not going to work with my coloring, although the highlighter looked good.

What a makeup-heavy month for my base BOXYCHARM! Most of the items worked well, but the box overall was missing a WOW item. There was a generic lipstick, some tacky brow glue, an ok glimmer shadow, a face palette that was too dark for my skin tone, and a decent set of makeup brushes that I already own. I guess I wanted something fun but there’s always next month. The retail value for my box collection was around $138 and all of the products are available at each brand’s individual website.

Below is a box opening photo as well as the product info card.
