The price is nearly $53 on their website! I get Edible-Opus Marshmallow of the Month Club and really like it, but they don’t have an advent calendar. I wonder how XO marshmallows compare? Might be ordering this calendar to sample all the flavors!
The price seems crazy to me for 25 marshmallows. Especially since that’s about 2.5 times their usual cost.
Right? That’s like $2 a marshmallow. I have to admit though, it would be a fun indulgence every day ☺️
I guess I expect advent calendars (or at least the kinds I like) to never be a “good value”. They are more frivolous than regular subscription boxes, with a bunch of ridiculous (and beautiful and fun but not at all eco-friendly) packaging, marketed as “limited edition” and sold at peak holiday prep shopping times. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one (that I actually wanted) that was an actual deal, so I’m not sure how high I find this price in advent calendar world.
That said, I’ve never heard of XO marshmallow and I’m not sure how I feel about their company after perusing their sure. The website doesn’t tell you anything of substance about their subscription box. How many marshmallows do you get in a regular monthly box? 12? 24? I was trying to compare the cost of the advent marshmallows to the price of the sub box marshmallows but I couldn’t find and info. So I don’t know if the $2 per marshmallow is standard pricing or double or even just a small mark up. For some reason, the lack of transparency irritates me more than the price!
Hey Lauren! I look at a look at their page and it says “You’ve asked, you’ve begged, we’ve done it. Introducing our Marshmallow of the Month Club! A subscription box dedicated to our innovative marshmallows. Curated just for you, each box will include 1 box of our marshmallow of the month, 1 box of complimentary marshmallows, and 1 special surprise item that fits each month’s theme!” so it actually does tell you how much comes in the box. 2 boxes and a bonus item. All of their boxes come with 12 marshmallows. Seems pretty transparent to me. I also looked at their IG because I was curious about the advent and similarly someone commented about the price and I absolutely LOVED their response!
“Yes. $52. Because we make them by hand. Cut them by hand. Pack them by hand. Make the boxes by hand. We use premium ingredients. We use a local packaging maker in the US. We use a local small artist to create the design. And pay our employees well. All of that costs money. So yes, $52 is what we charge for our advent order to have a sustainable business”
