Dermy Doc Box is a quarterly subscription box full of skincare items that are curated by board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Fatima Fahs. The boxes will contain 5+ skin and haircare items and will have a value of more than $100. The brands will be both drugstore and high end and will be a combo of samples and full-sized. It’s not customizable at this time but perhaps will be so in the future. Dermy Doc Box is $59.99 for a one-time purchase or subscribe and the price drops to $49.99! Shipping is free to the USA and it can be shipped to Canada for an additional fee.

As a board-certified dermatologist and skincare expert, she saw the need not only among her own patients, but those on social media to sift through the noise. With so much incorrect information online and ridiculous product claims, Dr. Fahs decided it was time to take matters into my own hands–or box! Each and every product in a Dermy Doc Box is selected because she has personally tried it, loved it and would recommend it to her own family and patients. It takes the guesswork out of finding quality skincare. Ultimately, her goal is to make people’s skincare routine less overwhelming and more efficacious!

If you’ve ever struggled walking down the skin care aisle, Dermy Doc Box will remove all the guesswork for you!

Dermy Doc boxes are seasonal so you can grab this summer box through the end of September. In October the fall box will be available. By the way, the items were tucked into heart-shaped dissolvable packing peanuts!

I found a pamphlet that tells me this is the Summer 2021 box, so bring on the sunscreen (which you should be using year round but especially at this time of year!).

The inside of the pamphlet listed each item as well as the MSRP and a website for more info. There were even codes to save on future purchases!

You can find the social media sites here. The bottom of the page reminds us that every product might not be perfect for every person and that users should do a patch test before using and consult a dermatologist if you have any concerns.

I received a Science of Skin Care card with all kinds of info on sunscreen.

Everything came in its original box or packaging.

Everything in my box!

Coolibar Sanibel Everyday Beach Shawl UPF50+ ($34) How cool is this shawl? I wish I had it before my vacation, it would have been perfect at the beach, but I have it now for my next trip, and of course, it can be worn to other destinations too. The bag is biodegradable so I threw it in my compost to see how long it will take to break down.

The tag tells me it provides a UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) of 50+. UPF’s are used for clothing items, while SPF is for stuff that goes on the skin. This product blocks 98% of UV A & B when worn.

I received the Black/White Modern Stripe pattern but it’s possible that several different patterns or colors were sent to subscribers. It measures 72″ x 29″ and can be machine washed. It is made of cotton, viscose from bamboo, and spandex. It is smooth, soft, stretchy, and I think it’s really neat!

Innerglow Vitamins Hair, Skin & Nails Vitamins ($5) The idea behind this supplement is that you might be able to boost hair growth and rejuvenate skin by ingesting vitamins and minerals plus a proprietary blend of other ingredients.

Those other ingredients include fish collagen, turmeric, ashwagandha, and saw palmetto. Just like pretty much every other diet supplement out there, these statements have not been evaluated by the FDA and of course consult your doctor if you are already using supplements and avoid if you are pregnant or nursing.

There were three tablets in the bag and that is a daily does, to be taken all at once or you could have one at each meal if you prefer. I like taking supplements and believe they may help fill in nutritional gaps but I can’t say whether this helps hair, skin, and nails yet because it would probably take a few months of consistent use to see any benefit.

MELĒ Skincare No Shade Sunscreen Oil SPF30 ($19.99) MELĒ is a brand from Unilever that is marketed to those who have melanin-rich skin, although this particular product can be used on all skin tones.

Its active ingredients are avobenzone and octinoxate, which are chemical sunscreens that are absorbed into the skin to reduce the chances of sun damage. Physical sunscreens (like zinc and titanium dioxide) sit on top of the skin and that’s the kind that usually leaves a white cast so no problems like that here. I don’t think I have ever used a sunscreen oil before but this one is meant to go on the face, but it’s not water resistant, it’s meant for daily use under makeup (or on bare skin if that’s your look). It is fragranced, with a gentle tropical/floral/nutty scent thanks to parfum (from what I can tell, there’s no oils like coconut, jojoba, or the like in the ingredients). The lid has a pump that you use to draw the oil up into the dropper and it sinks back in when you close and tighten the lid.

Olay Regenerist Mineral Sunscreen Hydrating Moisturizer SPF30 ($28.99) This is just what I am looking for in a face sunscreen — it has a physical blocker, it is fragrance-free, and it is non-greasy. The Dermy Doctor reminds us that we’re supposed to apply about 1/4 of a teaspoon of sunscreen to the face and she has a video on her Instagram account showing just how much that is and she applies it to her own face. The key takeaway here is that we are probably not using as much as we should.

The active ingredient is zinc oxide and there’s glycerin and niacinamide, but there’s no mineral oil or parabens. It’s a creamy white sunscreen and since I have dry skin I probably could have used an additional moisturizer underneath. I didn’t notice any white cast after rubbing it in and I think this is a great product for me, but make sure to use something else if you plan on swimming or sweating as it’s not water resistant.

Cellular MD Universal Protection Drops ($125) is a product with “high impact protein enzymes” that are supposed to fight off sun and environmental damage (think blue light from the computer) and help repair the skin.

The ingredients include plankton extract, glycerin, micrococcus lysate, and niacinamide.

The directions say to add one or two drops to your usual liquid cosmetics or skincare product to help boost protection against those daily stressors and it can be used twice a day. It comes out of the dropper as a thickish gel and the scent is very mild. It doesn’t feel sticky once dry and in fact you can’t really feel it at all after it soaks in.

CōTZ Skincare Flawless Complexion SPF50 ($25) Here is another product that I will use until it’s all gone. Like the Olay, it has a physical blocker in the form of zinc oxide, it’s fragrance free, but it’s also slightly tinted and leaves my skin feeling moist, no other moisturizer needed. The Olay was SPF 30, this is SPF 50.

Here’s the rest of those ingredients and I appreciate that this is meant especially for those with sensitive and rosacea-prone skin like me.

It has a tint to keep from leaving a white cast.

Here it is after slightly rubbing it in, it does disappear on my skin eventually. I loved using this as a base before applying my mineral face powder. As with the Olay and MELĒ, use something else if you are swimming or sweating.

The Summer Dermy Doc Box reminds us of why sunscreen is so important, and it included several different products to help us find one that works! I was especially happy with the CōTZ and Olay products, they are perfect for my needs and I enjoyed using them, which means I will use them every day and that’s the goal! The UPF shawl is also cool and it works whether I’m blocking the sun or just want to wear it out on a cool evening. The vitamins were interesting to try, I am a fan of supplements. The MELĒ has too much fragrance for my face but it can also be used on the neck and chest, and it doesn’t leave a white cast behind. The protection drops were an expensive product and I appreciate that they were included to help repair the skin. The value for this summer box is around $238!
