My items were cushioned with puffy air packs. This box ships from Japan!

So colorful! Most of the portions tend to be big in this box.

Everything in my box!

Simi Choco Matcha Milk

White chocolate is soaked in a cute, crispy star shaped corn snack, along with a luxurious taste of Uji matcha with a rich Japanese scent. This crunchy corn chips contain calcium and dietary fiber so that you can enjoy this mellow sweet snack with less guilt.

These are corn cereal puffs with a white chocolate coating that is dusted in matcha powder. My daughter says she dislikes white chocolate but she sure loved this snack, so I didn’t tell her about the whole chocolate thing. It’s sweet but there’s a hint of that strong green tea flavor, which tastes grassy to me.

Uji Matcha Wafer by Nakashi

A popular and flavorful wafer with a rich matcha cream taste that have been fragrantly baked. They use quality Uji matcha ingredients from Kyoto Prefecture for a rich taste.

There were 10 individually wrapped wafer cookies in the pack. This is a deeper matcha taste, and not too sweet, with a hint of bitterness to my palate.

‘Maiko Hii~ Hii~’ Spicy Curry Senbei by Maruya

Produced by Kyoto’s well-known chili pepper brand ‘Maiko Hii~ Hii~‘, it uses Japanese domestic habanero peppers and several other peppers to make their secret recipe. The crispy and light-textured senbei has a deep curry flavor, and the aroma of the spicy habanero powder spreads out in your mouth. It is refreshingly spicy with the curry flavor. If you are addicted to spicy food, you for sure don’t want to miss this!

There were a lot of big, round senbei in this pack, and they are crunchy without being heavy, more like an ice cream cone wafer than the usual senbei. They are curry flavored, not too sweet, but let me tell you, they are super SPICY!

Double Rich Uji Matcha Pudding by Kyo Migawa (1 Pudding)

An award ‘Monde Selection’ gold winning matcha pudding made by the long-established Uji tea specialty store Maruso. It is made from 100% Uji matcha from Kyoto Prefecture for a flavorful matcha pudding. They use twice the amount of matcha so you can enjoy a deeper and rich taste.

Ha ha, I’m not a fan of matcha and this pudding uses TWICE the amount of that ingredient for a stronger flavor. Um, yay? I tried here, but between the flavor and the consistency, I just couldn’t get past one spoonful. That’s on me though: if you like matcha, you will probably love this pudding!

Maiko-San Chocolate Cookies by Maicoto

Kyoto historical sensu (traditional folding fans) shop Maisendo launched their cookie brand, Maicoto, inspired by the streets of Kyoto. These delicate cookies are shaped as Maiko, an apprentice geisha in Kyoto. Kneaded with white chocolate, it has a soft texture with detailed painting of maiko that is almost too cute to eat! It’s paired with a matcha-flavored cookie for a delicious combination!

Look at those pictures on the cookies, they are exquisite! The cookies are more like a cookie/candy combo, with a texture that is more like a grainy white chocolate, or a cookie made with a lot of powdered sugar. The green cookie has matcha and that classic flavor, while the pretty ladies have a hint of vanilla and again, it’s more like a white chocolate bar. Delicious!

Nama Yatsuhashi in Uji Matcha Flavor by Higashiyama

The nama (raw) yatsuhashi is a traditional Kyoto treat with mochi-like texture that are perfect gifts and souvenir. The brand “Higashiyama” has been making yastuhashi for more than 80 years. For matcha flavor, they carefully selected Uji matcha tea, which is famous for its high quality matcha. Uji matcha flavored bean paste wrapped in fragrant matcha raw Yatsuhashi. Enjoy the taste of matcha’s rich aroma and the elegant traditional flavor of Kyoto.

IMPORTANT NOTICE❗️This treat’s ‘Best By’ date is only 20 days. Upon arrival, it might be very close or slightly pass the ‘Best By’ Date.

There were several yastuhashi in the box, along with an insert.

Mochi and matcha are not my favorite snacks, and I can’t say that I liked them together at all. The bean paste middle was all right, if extra sweet, and while I know the dough is supposed to be raw, it reminded me of noodles that weren’t cooked all the way. I don’t think anyone in my family cared for this one, but it was still fun to try!

There were so many matcha snacks in the May Tabi Box from Kyoto prefecture! My favorite from the matcha flavors would be the cereal puffs with white chocolate coating, although the Maiko cookies were also tasty. I had fun sharing these snacks with my family, it’s always interesting to see which one is a hit with each of them. Adventurous foodies, Japanese snack lovers, and especially matcha lovers would all really love this month’s edition!
