At the back, it tells us more about the subscription!

They also explained why their Spring box is about lemons!

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Well…after 2020 I think we all deserve a lemonade year-round. Consider 2021 a tart fresh start.

Of course, there’s a list of the items in the box, accompanied with photos and short descriptions. This quarter’s Non-Profit Pick is The Love Fridge Chicago! For every box sold, they will donate a bundle of lemons to this organization.

Everything in my box!

Bookmarks. The box includes two pretty bookmarks. The first one features a lemon print along with some leaves and flowers. It also has a text that says: “Color your world with words.”

This bookmark with a white tassel is from the Garden Girl Studio! There’s more information about the artist on the other side of the bookmark.

Another bookmark is from SparkMark, an eclectic online boutique of handmade bookmarks.

It has a light yellow tassel, which matches the yellow lemon prints on the bookmark!

Stickers. They also included adorable food-themed stickers in the box! This first one is the cute bread from the Bookmarks & Breadsticks logo. This cute bread slice is holding a book in one hand and a baguette on the other!

Another sticker features adorable lemon slices. One lemon came in half and the other in a quarter but they both look really cute!

These stickers are from Sunbreeze Studios and they even included a thank you note!

Mug Rug. Here’s another useful item, a mug rug made with woven cotton! It helps avoid unwanted stains or discoloration on my table.

I love the lemon print because the yellow color really pops up in contrast to the dark blue background. Caring for this rug is also easy because it can be machine washed.

Citrus Juicers. What’s a lemon-themed box without a juicer? This manual juicer is very easy to use! It’s also light and handy, making it convenient to bring wherever I go, so I can enjoy a freshly-squeezed cup of lemonade anytime and anywhere.

Quince & Apple Orange Marmalade with Lemons ($3.25) I love the bright and citrus flavors of this apple and orange marmalade but what made it so much better is that there is a kick of ginger in it which I think really balances everything out.

Of course, this marmalade also contains lemons! I love putting it on top of my buttered toast for breakfast.

This month’s featured book came wrapped in paper.

Lemon A Global History by Toby Sonneman ($19)

You can squeeze it, zest it, slice it, juice it, pickle it, or even take a bite out of it as Sicilians do. Adding freshness and flavor to food and drinks, this versatile sour fruit, also known for resolving diverse health and household troubles, has long been considered vital to Mediterranean and European cookery and cuisine.

Lemon: A Global History tells the story of the remarkable adventure of the lemon, starting with its fragrant and mysterious ancestor, the citron, adored by the Greeks and Romans for its fine perfume and sacred to many of the world’s great religions. The lemon traveled with Arabs along ancient trade routes, came of age in Sicily and Italy, and sailed to the New World with Columbus. It was an exotic luxury in seventeenth-century Europe and later went on to save the lives of thousands of sailors in the British Royal Navy after being recognized as a cure for scurvy. The last century saw the lemon’s rise to commercial success in a California citrus empire as well as the discovery of new varieties. This book also includes delicious recipes for sweet and savory dishes and beverages.

This book’s cover is simple and straight the the point while the back features a few reviews.

The inner front flap features a brief overview of the book.

In line with the theme, this book focuses on lemons, including its history and its current popularity!

During the 17th Century, lemons were actually considered exotic and precious so they were really expensive. Back then, people also gave lemons a prominent placement on their dinner tables!

This is such an interesting read! I learned a lot of new things about lemons, helping me appreciate this popular fruit and culinary ingredient more. Some pages even included photos and illustrations!

Of course, the book also discussed the ever popular lemonade!

My first Bookmarks & Breadsticks box is quite promising. I love the lemon theme which is perfect for welcoming spring, and I also loved reading the book filled with fun facts about lemons and its history. This quarter’s featured food item is the marmalade. I love how citrusy it is, with a hint of ginger that perfectly ties the flavors. Of course, I also liked the cute bookmarks and stickers, plus the mug rug! Overall, I am quite happy with this box! Combining books and food items in one box is such a great idea. This subscription is ideal for bookworms who are also true blue foodies, and also for foodies who want to learn more about food and culinary ingredients through books!
