This is my very first box from Simple Loose Leaf and I am reviewing the Black Tea Box!

Black Tea Box

  • Each month receive 4 new black loose leaf teas or 3 black teas and something that black tea drinkers will love
  • The Black Tea Box is a great fit for the tea drinker that wants to experience the darker flavor profiles that black teas have to offer
  • Explore teas from China, India, Sri Lanka, and more

I received a card.

The back of the card listed some fun ways to explore tea. I like these suggestions, but then again, it isn’t hard to get me to drink tea!

I found four linen pouches in my box. Simple Loose Leaf sends, you guessed it, loose leaf teas. You will need a way to remove the leaves after steeping. I have a steeping system but you could use these bags, buy disposable paper bags, use a French Press, or strain your tea afterwards, whatever works for you.

The side of the box had some helpful tips for steeping times and water temps. For instance, green and white tea should never be steeped with boiling water or for longer than 3 minutes.

A reminder that employees are getting life skills through working is on the other side of the box. I am a special needs educator who happens to work in a life skills classroom so this is super awesome!

Everything in my box!

Simple Loose Leaf Simple Earl Grey Tea  I really appreciate that Simple Loose Leaf has such good info on their packages, it is so easy to find what I need and get to steeping. It lists the batch number, country of origin, steeping time, water temperature, and how much tea to use. I used a “perfect teaspoon” to measure all of the teas in this review, so I used around 1.25 to 1.5 teaspoons of tea, and that worked really well for me.

The back of each package has tasting notes and tells you how to enjoy the tea. I almost always add sugar and half & half to my tea.

This Earl Grey was citrus forward with a floral note. Sugar and milk made it perfect. It would be wonderful iced on a hot day.

Simple Loose Leaf Kenilworth Ceylon Tea is a single origin tea from Sri Lanka so it’s just really good black tea.

Kenilworth is in Sri Lanka and they are known for their smooth teas.

I really liked the slightly floral flavor that came from this tea. It had some mild tannins but sugar took care of that. I added milk too and it was the perfect cuppa, just what I needed to start my day.

Simple Loose Leaf Simple Peach Black Want a tea that tastes like summer? Check out this fruity black tea!

This would be absolutely wonderful on ice, so fruity!

It has dried pieces of fruit and sugar and milk made this a decadent cup, almost like dessert! The fruity sweet flavor was prominent and this was a super tasty tea.

Simple Loose Leaf Blueberry Le’Mint was similar to an herbal tea, with lemon(grass?) being the predominant flavor.

Blueberries, mint, and lemon peel join black tea leaves for this blend. It also has “all natural flavor” and I’m going to go with lemongrass, because it is pretty strong and doesn’t smell exactly like lemon.

The mint gives it some lightness and the tea didn’t have strong tannins, so I just added a bit of sugar. I added milk but I don’t think it needs it. The blueberry was undetectable to me, I didn’t think it was fruity at all. Lemon and mint, that was it. I think this would be perfect as an iced tea, and that is how I will use up the rest of the package!

I was very pleased with my first box from Simple Loose Leaf! I love black tea, can’t seem to start my day without it, and frequently drink a second cup in the afternoon, either hot or iced. This box had a variety of flavors and they were all high-quality and tasty. They would all taste good on ice too, so if it’s hot where you live then try it cold for a refreshing sip. I think it is terrific that they have four different box options with different levels of caffeine, even caffeine-free if you like. I am already excited about my next box!
