Quintessence by Jess Redman ($16.99)

Quintessence is an extraordinary story from Jess Redman about friendship, self-discovery, interconnectedness, and the inexplicable elements that make you you.

Find the Elements. Grow the Light. Save the Starling.

Three months ago, twelve-year-old Alma moved to the town of Four Points. Her panic attacks started a week later, and they haven’t stopped―even though she’s told her parents that they have. She’s homesick and friendless and every day she feels less and less like herself.

But one day she finds a telescope in the town’s junk shop, and through its lens, she watches a star―a star that looks like a child―fall from the sky and into her backyard. Alma knows what it’s like to be lost and afraid, to long for home, and she knows that it’s up to her to save the star. And so, with the help of some unlikely new friends from Astronomy Club, she sets out on a quest that will take a little bit of science, a little bit of magic, and her whole self.

This title has Common Core connections.

It’s a middle-grade fantasy book and we’re here for it!

The dust jacket’s flap introduces us to Alma Lucas or Alma of the Growing Light.

One of the first few pages has the author’s signature.

This novel bravely tackles mental health. The main character, Alma, moved to a new town, and then her panic attacks started a week later.

Aside from tackling mental health, it’s also a nice story of friendship, knowing oneself, interconnectedness, and the elements that make you, you!

Monthly Collectible Sticker. This month’s collectible sticker is designed by Ellie vs. Bear (@ellievsbear). It has a magical design, featuring a star inside a flask! There are also fishes and flowers around it. The flame on top of the cork stopper is looking really cute as well.

Book Sleeve. This book sleeve is inspired by Professor Snape’s Potion Class!

It shows a colorful cabinet full of different potions!

The sleeve fits this month’s featured book perfectly!

Vial. We also got a wee vial inside a canvas string pouch.

The vial contains moonstone. It is believed that these gems have powerful alchemical energy.

Stem Periodic Table Jigsaws ($6.50) This 150-piece jigsaw puzzle of the Periodic Table of Elements is cool, it even came in a test tube!

The puzzle also comes with a STEM quiz.

It also has an included periodic table that will serve as a guide so you’ll know how to build your puzzle.

It will take some time to complete the puzzle but you will also have an idea of how the elements were arranged in this really systematic and organized manner. Thanks to the Russian chemist, Dmitri Mendeleev!

They gave us a sneak peek for the next box! The May 2020 theme is Magic in Bloom!

We’ve planted the seeds for adventure next month and we’re ready for their magic to bloom! June’s story is an enchanting fantasy novel full of magical powers, family secrets, and a mysterious garden. This book will be just right for fans of The Secret Garden and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children!

Chemistry is really an interesting subject, and for this month, we’re not just dealing with Chemistry, but with Alchemy! The book is really nice and we love the magical theme, where the heroine helps a fallen starling that also helped her to know herself. We also like all the bookish items included in this month’s crate especially the Potion Class-inspired book sleeve and the cool Periodic Table of Elements puzzle! Next month, we can’t wait to see what will bloom, and what new story will be added to our favorites list!
