The theme this month is FALL IN JAPAN.
As temperatures dip in Japan after the scorching summer, the colors of the leaves change into vibrant shades of orange, red, yellow, and brown. This fall foliage is called koyo or momiji (meaning red leaf). This month, we feature snacks made with you iconic foods of Japan.
Chestnuts, or Kuri (栗), is the oldest cultivated plant in Japan (even before rice). It’s an integral part of many Japanese dishes because of its versatility in being applied to both sweet and savory dishes.
Kabocha (かぼちゃ), is Japanese pumpkin that is typically much smaller in size than the western variety. It has green skin and is more closely related to the butternut squash. Similar to chestnuts, Kabocha is widely used in both sweet and savory dishes in Japan.
