Literati is a monthly book subscription box for children that works similar to Stitch Fix. For a monthly fee of $9.95, you’ll receive 5 books to try out for a week. You can purchase the ones you love and return the rest (in totally new condition) in the enclosed prepaid mailer (shipping is free in both directions).

You can get 5% off when you decide to keep all the books! There are also categories for each age bracket: Club Neo is for newborn to 1 year; Club Sprout is for children ages 2-3; Club Nova is for kids 4-6, and Club Sage is for those 7-8 years old.

This is a review of the Club Nova box for kids 4-6.

DEAL: Get $25 in account credit to put towards books when you sign up! USE THIS LINK to get the deal.

There are lots of books in store for us!

The box looks full, and the contents are all neatly packaged.

There’s no longer a padded mailer. Instead, you can use the teal box itself if you want to return some of the books. You’ll also receive a tape and a prepaid postage label for the box.

The featured illustrator creates new artwork for the monthly themes. This month’s illustrator is Steve Adams.

A full-size print comes with the box, along with free shipping. Although I don’t love that the fee doesn’t apply to a full box purchase, this high-quality print makes it more worth it. Also, the theme for this month is Around the Campfire!

They included a sheet to help us label the books, and let others know that they’re ours when we decide to keep them. They’re really adorable!

There’s also a listing of the book prices. If you decide to keep everything, you’ll get 5% off. The subscription has a $9.95 non-refundable fee. According to Literati “it covers shipping both ways, allows the curators to invite a new world-renowned illustrator each month to draw personalized bookplates and a unique print for members, and covers other themed surprises that are included in the box.” Since the print is now full size and high quality, we are digging that change. It includes the shipping back and forth too.

There’s a cute note from Team Literati.

Every month, Literati book boxes include toys or activities that the kids can get busy with.

This month, they included a Scavenger Hunt activity.

Get in the campfire spiriti, even without the campfire.

Grab a friend to complete the enclosed summer scavenger hunt. Find the best marshmallow roasting sticks and have an adventure worth re-telling along the way!

There’s also a note that tells us the excitement of telling and listening to campfire stories!

There’s also an info card about the five books sent to us this month. The card lists the titles with a brief description for each.

Everything in the box!

The Boy Who Grew Flowers by Jen Wojtowicz ($7.99)

Rink is a very unusual boy who grows beautiful flowers all over his body whenever the moon is full. In town and at school, Rink and his family are treated as outcasts although no-one knows his strange botanical secret. But one day a new girl arrives at school, and Rink discovers she has some unique qualities of her own.

The story is about the boy Rink, who has a somehow different talent that he thinks no one will appreciate until he met Angelina.

Unlike Rink, who always stays at a corner and is always shy, Angelina is very popular among her classmates.

Rink’s talent of growing flowers on his body might sound weird, but overall the story is cute and heartwarming, as Rink found a friend in Angelina.

S Is For S’mores: A Camping Alphabet by Helen Foster James ($14.58)

Next to baseball and fireworks on the Fourth of July, nothing else seems as American as the family camping trip. From what to pack, where to go, and what to do when you get there, S is for S’mores: A Camping Alphabet takes readers on an A-Z trail exploring this outdoor pastime. Veteran camper Helen Foster James tackles topics such as unique camping environments, equipment necessities, famous conservationists, and national parks and other attractions. Whether your idea of “roughing it” is a blanket in your own backyard or the subarctic ecosystem of Alaska’s Denali National Park, S is for S’mores is a fun and informative guide that is sure to help campers of all ages make the most of their wilderness adventures.Helen Foster James started researching this book when she was four years old – that’s when she went on her first camping trip. An educator for over 20 years, Helen is a lecturer for San Diego State University. Her first book, E is for Enchantment: A New Mexico Alphabet, was a WILLA Literary Award Finalist. Helen lives in San Diego, California. Lita Judge lives in New Hampshire with her husband. She studied geology and dug for dinosaurs before she turned to writing and illustrating children’s books. Her love of nature, animals, science, and history inspires her art.

The back of the book lists other titles that are also filled with fun facts for children!

The book is about the A-Z of camping! The story is fun and is added with camping tips and lists some of the important stuff and things to remember before and during the activity.

Aside from the fun ABC’s, the book also included sidebars that contain facts about camping!

Also, the art is really nice and spot-on. It also encourages us all to go on camping really soon!

Little Children’s Nature Activity Book by Usborne ($6.67)

This colourful activity book is packed with nature-themed puzzles, things to spot, colouring, drawing and doodling activities. Match baby animals to their mothers, colour in flowers and insects, spot-the-difference between countryside scenes and much more. With four pages of stickers and all the answers at the back of the book.

The kids just need to grab a pen and they can start getting busy with all the contents of this book!

This book tackles many things about nature, and it includes insects!

The book also included stickers that can be used in some of the activities.

Hannah’s Tall Order: An A To Z Sandwich by Linda Vander Heyden ($12.14)

Hannah is feeling just a bit peckish and knows exactly what she wants to eat: an A to Z sandwich on thick whole wheat bread! From avocado to zucchini, Hannah’s whims throw Mr. McDougal at the cafe into a sandwich-building frenzy. But what happens when Hannah discovers the towering sandwich isn’t quite what she ordered? This messy romp through the alphabet will have readers in fits of giggles from beginning to end.

It’s another story that has objects from A to Z… And this time, for a sandwich!

Hannah knows what she wants, and she wants her sandwich to have items arranged alphabetically. We can imagine how stressful it is for the sandwich maker, Mr. McDougal!

Hannah’s sandwich looks really weird, but Mr. McDougal still does it for her! The illustration is also beautiful, and it clearly depicts the weirdness of Hannah’s tall order!

Johnny Kaw: A Tall Tale by Devin Scillian ($15.95)

Five minutes after his birth, Johnny Kaw is over six feet tall and still growing. When he outgrows his crib and even their town, his parents decide to move west where “little” Johnny can have plenty of room to play. After the family crosses the wide Missouri River to Kansas, Johnny sits down to play with his dog. His bottom ends up making the valley where his family will settle. And when Johnny clears stones from a field so his father can plow, he ends up creating the Rocky Mountains in the process. The legendary folk hero shapes the state’s landscape by carving out valleys and creating prairies with his bare hands. Why, he even takes on a tornado when it threatens the family farm. Kansas native Devin Scillian spins a rollicking, rhyming yarn based on the tall tale of Johnny Kaw. Comedic, exaggerated artwork from artist Brad Sneed brings this character to BIG life.

The story is about the mythical Kansas settler Johnny Kaw, and how he formed the Rocky Mountains, valleys, and more!

There’s no man as tall as Johnny, and this folk tale will introduce the kids to the beauty and legends of Kansas in a humorous way!

As Johnny grew bigger and bigger, his parents decided to move to a place where there’s more room for him to move and even play!

Brad Sneed’s art definitely brought life to this well-known tale!

My kids enjoyed the fun tales and the new learning from this month’s books! Their favorite is Johnny Kaw, because aside from the interesting story, they also learned about popular landmarks and other places in Kansas. They also love the nature activity book, it kept them busy for hours! The kids also want to try the scavenger hunt activity included in this box. All we need now are sticks and marshmallows for them to be able to make some s’mores. This is such a great box for kids, especially if you want to help them develop good reading habits!
