The theme this month is “Castles of Japan: Kumamoto.”
We like to think there’s a little bit of something in Japan for every visitor, from the foodies, to the history buffs, to fans of onsens or cosplay. The city we’re introducing today is a treat for architecture enthusiasts. In the Kumamoto prefecture sits Japan’s third biggest castle. The architectural designs are aesthetically unique from its European counterparts but were also effective in protecting its inhabitants from encroaching enemies and housed some important daimyos through Japan’s history.
