The booklet is very informative, as it provides fun facts about Kenya. It even included English words and their equivalent Swahili translations.

It also features some well-known recipes from Kenya!

Of course, they provided a list of items included in this month’s box.

On this part, it gave us an idea and a glimpse of how people live in beautiful Kenya!

There’s even a fun crossword puzzle activity. The booklet also provided some clues for the next month’s featured country!

Everything in my box!

The April 2019 box includes a booklet and a button pin.

The button pin features Kenya map, their flag, and some things that they are known for.

I have this idea of putting these pins that I got from this box on an apron and make it as kitchen decor, similar to a fridge door with magnet souvenirs from different places!

As promised, we got recipe cards featuring dishes from the featured country.

The first recipe we got is Githeri, a vegetarian Kenyan recipe consisting of corns and beans. It is one of the staple foods in the country, and it is typically served as is or eaten with chapati, a flatbread.

Next up is Ugali, a Kenyan corn cake which is starchy and polenta-like. It is served as an accompaniment to vegetable and meat dishes.

Kenyan Chevda. This savory snack is made from Kenyan potatoes, which are known to be the sweetest in the world. Also, by sourcing the potatoes from the country, the company is able to secure livelihood for thousands of farmers in the region. It has different variants: Original, No Sugar Added, Chili Lemon, and Hot. We got the Original!

The potatoes are sliced and mixed with lentils, peanuts, and fried using cholesterol-free corn oil. The fried potatoes are then sprinkled with spices, which is a secret recipe handed down from generation to generation. The chips also have the right taste and the right crunch for a fun snack.

Tea Bags. Since this box contains lots of teas, it’s just right that they included some tea bags!

Fahari Ya Kenyan Tea ($14.95 Full-Size 500g) Speaking of teas, here we got a box of Fahari Ya Kenya tea! They use best grades of Kenyan tea, a blended selection of medium-sized tea granules plus small quantities of selected fibrous tea.

The tea has a distinct aroma when steeped, and it is actually soothing.

Nyama Choma Seasoning. Nyama Choma is a popular Kenyan grilled meat, and we can replicate that recipe using this seasoning! The bag contains a mixture of pepper and other spices that makes the meat tastier. They usually just use salt and pepper to season the meat for Nyama Choma, but this seasoning mix will definitely upgrade the roast.

Rose Coco Beans. We also got a bag of rose coco beans, the small soft beans which serve as the key ingredient in cold salads or hot and delicious curries. They are also known to be one of the best diet foods around. In Kenya, these beans can even be made into a stew.

Dry Corn. Corn and beans are usual ingredients in Kenyan cuisine, so they also included a pack of dry corn. These bags of beans and corns can be used in making the Githeri.

Corn Flour. They also included this bag of Ugali, or corn flour, for us to be able to make our own version of the Kenyan corn cake!

Tea Masala ($6.22) This Tea Masala can be added to your tea as a seasoning to uplift your mood. Just a pinch of the seasoning to a cup of tea of your choice and you’re good.

The tea seasoning contains ginger, cinnamon, cardamoms, cloves, black pepper, and nutmeg. I can definitely use it when I prepare a cup of the Fahari Ya Kenya tea.

Githeri Masala ($7.95) Another seasoning I got is for making the Githeri, the Kenyan beans and corn stew recipe.

The Githeri Masala contains coriander, cumin, onion powder, fenugreek, turmeric, garlic, bay leaves, cinnamon, ginger, chilies, salt, and corn starch.

Flavors of the World Box introduced us to Kenya by sending us a mix of premium quality ingredients from the country, as well as recipes and a booklet that contains lots of fun and useful information. We don’t even need to leave the house just to experience another culture and cuisine. I am definitely looking forward to the next countries I am going to experience through this subscription. As for this month’s box, I love all the seasonings! I can’t wait to make my own version of some of Kenya’s most popular delicacies!
