Backpacker Predicting Weather: Forecasting, Planning & Preparing ($12.95)

Backpacker Magazine’s Weather informs readers about how weather happens, how to predict and recognize weather patterns, identify cloud formations and know what they mean, develop weather awareness from basic meteorological concepts, and more. This handy pocket-sized guide is 96 pages, includes two pop-outs, and incorporates color photos, charts, and illustrations as needed throughout the interior.

This booklet is a helpful guide for every outdoor adventure. It provides practical information for actual outdoor-related situations and, since it’s compact, you can always bring it in your bag or pocket.

It also contains full-color photos and illustrations with concise, clear text, introducing us to basic and intermediate skills for a safe and successful outdoor adventure.

In this booklet, you will learn how to read the sky. You can easily forecast the weather by simply observing the type of clouds in the sky, together with the speed and direction they are moving.

It also lets us know the difference between the warm and cold occluded fronts, and how it greatly affects the weather and temperature.

One of the most dangerous events a hiker can encounter is flash floods, and they literally occur in a snap of an eye. Knowing the details and the things to do in this kind of situation is really an advantage and makes your outdoor adventure way much easier!

HotSnapZ Reusable Hand Warmers ($3.74) This hand warmer can provide up to 54°C of heat, and it kept my hands warm for around 30 to minutes to a couple of hours. It’s handy to bring for outdoor camping adventures. The warmers are primarily made from water and sodium acetate, so it’s 100% non-toxic and safe to use even by children.

Gear Aid Ni Glo Gear Marker ($5.95) It’s a glow in the dark keychain that can be used as a functional marker to your outdoor gears including your backpack, tents, sleeping bag, and many more.

This illuminated keychain is quite small with around 2 inches in length. It’s lightweight, waterproof, dust-proof, and weatherproof. Also, it glows anywhere, in the rain, dust, snow, and even promises to still function underwater up to 164 ft. deep.

It charges through sunlight, indoor light, and even flashlights which can last up to 10 hours, and the light can be seen up to 25 feet away.

At the back of the carton is more information about this unique item.

Mountainsmith Pack Cover ($23.95) To protect our bag from sudden rain during your hiking or outdoor trip, they included this backpack rain cover from Mountainsmith!

Its body is made primarily from 190t polyester nylon taffeta, a premium quality fabric regularly used in making a waterproof item.

Aside from the polyester nylon taffeta, this bag also comes with a full circumference draw cord, taped seams, and integrated stuff sack for durability.

This pack will definitely keep all your things dry, even if they are being soaked in water (in times when you need to cross a river or any body of water during the hike).

SOL Heat Reflective Poncho ($8) I’ll never worry again about getting caught in a sudden downpour during camping. This heat reflective poncho from SOL is made from high-quality heat reflective and waterproof materials, and it’ll keep me dry and warm at the same time.

Featured at the back of its container are some essential pointers about this cool poncho.

It’s so versatile, as it can be folded until it becomes small enough to fit in the side of your backpack. Plus it’s super lightweight!

This poncho is also made with a tear-resistant material. Unlike polyester and mylar, it is super durable that it won’t be torn apart so easily.

This one-size-fits-all hooded poncho is huge enough to easily cover you and your backpack, keeping you and your camping gear dry all the time.

The color works as a reflector most especially when hiking at night and during bad weather. All in all, this is definitely a must-have item for your outdoor adventure.

This month’s SCOUTBox includes another impressive curation of outdoor gear that encourages us to go outside. The box is filled with useful items for outdoor adventures, but some of them are also useful on regular days. I love everything inside the box most especially the Predicting Weather Booklet, as it is so informative and very helpful for our adventures and the kids loved it. Overall, this box is amazing and we’re really looking forward to more useful items in our next box!
