The September 2018 Scoutbox theme is Emergency Prep!

The back of the card lists all the items included in this month’s box along with a brief description.

Everything in my box!

They included a square SCOUTbox sticker, so you can show you’re a fan.

RediTape Pocket Size Duct Tape ($12.99) Everyone knows that duct tape is one of the most versatile and handy emergency repair materials. This version is specially packaged — it’s flattened for easy storage and transport. This isn’t just tape, it is a multi-purpose tool you can use for home repairs, when exploring the outdoors, and even for travel and emergency preparation.

The special packaging is pocket-sized and much easier to pack than a roll. Though it is a ridiculously simple concept, it gives you access to duct tape in a much better condition than if you tried to flatten or re-roll it yourself.

This pocket duct tape measures 1.88 inches wide, 5 yards long, and only 0.6 inches thick.

It’s so thin that it can fit anywhere and be stored in a toolbox, glove box, tackle box, backpack, pocket, purse… literally ANYWHERE! Our pack came in bright blaze orange, perfect for high-visibility and emergency use.

It’s easy to tear and to handle, but stays strong and durable when applied.

Survival Frog USB Rechargeable AA Batteries ($29.97) It’s an ultimate all-in-one battery, as it features a built-in USB port where you can directly charge the battery when drained.

It includes 4 pieces of 1450mAh 1.2V AA USB rechargeable batteries and a durable plastic case.

Simply pop open the cap and plug it in. No messy cords or and cables, and no hauling around a charging block. Perfect for charging in the car (most now have USB) or office.

These batteries can accommodate over 500 charge cycles, which will definitely save you a lot of dollars compared to buying a regular battery. It’s also 2-3 times powerful than the standard AA batteries, making it the best battery for outdoor use!

Nokero N233 Solar Light ($19.99) This camping lantern is made from high impact ABS, polycarbonate, stainless steel and LiFePO4, 500 mAH built-in battery.

The back of the package features three different lamp positions you can try. It has a hanging loop, threaded base, and even a detachable stand.

The box also includes a simple instruction manual with illustration for a better understanding of the item.

Nokero N233 is basically composed of a plastic stand and the lamp itself. The color is bright and cute.

The lamp has a complete running time of 6 hours when used in high mode (25 lumens), perfect for reading or task work, and 15 hours for low mode (10 lumens), ideal for background lighting.

To charge the lamp, simply put it directly under the sun for 6-8 hours.

This lamp is designed to withstand any weather. You can tilt it 360 degrees for both light directionality and most efficient capturing of sunlight.

Aside from the stand, this lamp also has a stainless steel hook at the bottom just in case you need it hanging. It’s perfect to bring during camping and hiking!

Outdoor Element Whistle + Tinder. This whistle is made from POM thermoplastic, which is durable and lightweight. It also serves as a storage for tinder and spare ferro rods.

The back of the package has a 20% off fiberbiner promo code specially for SCOUTbox.

The Wombat whistle and the tinder!

The tinder is made with treated cotton fiber and designed to work with firebiner. It also works with matches, lighters, and ferro rod-strikers. It burns for 1-2 minutes, enough time to light your other tinder (you did remember to build your fire before lighting it, right?).

The whistle is great for signaling if you lose your way or are in distress. The screw-top chamber has a rubber seal, keeping the area water-tight.

Ultimate Survival Technologies Learn & Live Cards ($3.99) These cards feature a number of suggestions and information on how to properly pack your bag and the items you need to include in an emergency kit.

These cards make a good educational resource — scouts and outdoor leaders can pass the deck around while displaying the contents of their own bag.

It’s waterproof, so it won’t easily get worn out even if you bring it outdoors.

One pack consists of ten informative cards, covering everything from food to first aid.

They are attached with a grommet, so you can’t misplace a card or two. The advice is pretty basic, but it covers the essentials and is a good way to get people thinking about what items you need to have to be adequately prepared for an emergency.

Our first SCOUTbox included a great variety of practical and unique gear. They are useful for outdoor adventures, but some of them are also ideal for everyday use. My favorites are the Survival Frog USB rechargeable batteries and Nokero Solar Light. We had never seen the former before. They’re both so handy, functional, and very convenient. It sure was an impressive start, and I’m certainly looking forward to more useful and outdoor items on my next box!
