My books were wrapped in tissue paper.

Everything in my box! It’s pretty no-frills. I received two hardcover books this month.

First Light By Bill Rancic (List price $26, now $15.94) Every summer, usually around October when the temperatures here in Texas are still in the 90’s, I dream of moving somewhere cold, like Alaska or Canada or even Greenland. This book takes place in the Yukon following a plane crash so we’ll see if I still feel the same way after reading the book.

A moving story of love, family, and survival against all odds from beloved entrepreneur and reality TV star Bill Rancic.

Set amid the deep, wild woods of the Yukon, First Light tells the story of Daniel Albrecht and Kerry Egan, a young couple just beginning their life together: in love, engaged, and, as Kerry soon discovers, expecting their first child. While they are flying home from a work trip in Alaska to plan their wedding in Chicago, both engines of their plane catch fire and send the plane careening into a mountainside in the middle of a terrible snowstorm. Kerry is seriously injured in the accident, and Daniel—the one person among the passengers with some survival experience—makes the courageous decision to search for help, hoping against hope that he can return to save his fellow travelers, especially the woman he loves.

Thus begins a harrowing and suspenseful race against time and the elements, as it becomes clear that not everyone will make it out alive. As the couple’s story draws to a close, the surprising truth about the boy’s life, and that of his parents’ marriage, will at last be divulged.

A romantic and heart-wrenching debut from Bill Rancic, First Light is about surviving the most insurmountable obstacles—and finding renewal and love just when it seems that all is lost.

Between Two Fires By Mark Noce (List price $25.99, now $16.82) A tale that takes place in Medieval Wales and has princesses and kings and knights? Thank you BookCase.Club!!! I know what I’ll be reading the next week or so. Let me grab my tea, blanket, cat, and blast that a/c so I can pretend I’m reading somewhere else, like 597AD.

Saxon barbarians threaten to destroy medieval Wales. Lady Branwen becomes Wales’ last hope to unite their divided kingdoms when her father betroths her to a powerful Welsh warlord, the Hammer King. But the fledgling alliance is fraught with enemies from within and without as Branwen becomes the target of assassination attempts and courtly intrigue. A young woman in a world of fierce warriors, she seeks to assert her own authority and preserve Wales against the barbarians. But when she falls for a young hedge knight named Artagan, her world threatens to tear itself apart.

Caught between her duty to her people and her love of a man she cannot have, Branwen must choose whether to preserve her royal marriage or to follow her heart. Somehow she must save her people and remain true to herself, before Saxon invaders and a mysterious traitor try to destroy her.

Branwen’s story combines elements of mystery and romance with Noce’s gift for storytelling.

I was really pleased with my books this month from BookCase.Club! I was especially happy to see the historical fiction, one of my favorite genres. I am also interested in Alaska and North America above the 48th parallel. Both of these books came out in 2016 and are in perfect condotion. The original retail value was $51.99 and if I ordered them today on Amazon I would pay $32.76! That’s a great value for the subscription price!
