Universal Yums is a monthly international snack subscription box. Every month you’ll take a trip to a new country and munch on brand new exciting snacks. There are two sizes of box, the Yum ($13) and the Yum Yum ($25). This is the Yum Yum box, and it’s a fun subscription that we get a kick out of each and every month.

This month the treats were from Colombia!

These boxes are always so full and they send such an assortment of goodies to try out. I have them all opened up here but the smaller candies all come in a sealed plastic bag to keep them from floating all around and we got a great bonus item this month that you can see on the right.

We have a new information booklet size this month. It is larger and the font is bigger making it easier to read as you are going through.

Buenas! This month’s introductory note talks about the contrasts in Colombia and I can’t wait to check out the yums and how they are all so different.

The information book has notes about all of the items and ingredients for them. Check out the larger font and all the fun information and story about each item.

In addition to the added information we also get larger and more vibrant pictures in the new info booklets.

Cassaca Strips – While these looked and tasted like chips they are actual made from from a shrub called Cassava. I’ll take it either way as chips are my downfall and these were good.

Arequipe – Oh my, this is rich. Colombians eat their Dulche de Leche right from the spoon and while giving it a try was good it is really rich so I might try it again mixed with something else like some ice cream or some apples or something like that.

Supercoco Candy – This one has coconut in it and as you know if you’ve read my other review other months mean that it goes to my son or my mother-in-law. I just can’t do coconut. This is a chewy coconut and turon mix candy.

Rizadas Picanticas – Universal Yums tells us that Colombians use spices sparingly which I had no clue about. I would have assumed they liked things really spicy but that is not the case. These chips have a bit of a bite to them but nothing I couldn’t manage.

Rizadas Mayonesa – Uhm, nope, nope, nope. As much as I LOVE chips, I’m not eating some that are mayonnaise flavored. Colombians dip their chips and french fries in mayonnaise regularly so they made a chip to have the same flavor. Not something I’m into, but my hubby does like to make a ketchup and mayonnaise dip for his fries so I don’t think its totally crazy just maybe a bit crazy.

Bianchi White Chocolate Bar – Universal Yums can send me chocolate bars every month if you ask me. I’m not a huge chocolate fan where I eat it all the time but I do like it on occasion. This little bar was the perfect size and was so yummy.

Piazza Fresa Barquillos – My son loves wafer cookies and strawberry flavor is one of his favorite flavors so this was right up his alley. He says they are delicious and asked if we had more so he could pack them for lunch.

Bon Bon Bum Lollipops – The name of these is such a hoot and I’m giggling as I write this. Can you really go wrong with lollipops? I think not and both my boys like them so I just set these aside for an after school treat.

Coffee Delight – Coffee candies. I’ve never thought about Juan Valdez being just a figure made up for ads. I guess it makes perfect sense just nothing something I’ve thought of. Colombia is currently on their third actor to play the legendary character.

Chocoramo – This was a little softer and fluffier then I was expecting in a pre-packaged cake. That is a major good thing and could be why it is so popular and why the recipe is kept a secret.

Castipan Veleno – Not sure what to make of these. They are little guava paste squares and Universal yums suggests pairing it with a nice white cheese. Since I’m not a cold cheese fan, not sure this one is for me.

Turbana Chili Plantain Chips – Yummy, yummy yummy. I love some friend plantains so its no surprise that I love plantain chips. This bad while it looks big did not last long.

Nestle Cocosette – More coconut which does make sense coming from Colombia but with the decadence of this bar I’m keeping it for my mother-in-law. She will love it when she comes over next time.

Tocineta Lime & Bacon Chips – I’m firmly in the everything is better with bacon camp and Bacon Chips are scrumptious. I was going to try and save these for my brother who also loves bacon but that did not happen and I devoured them.

Universal Yums sent a universially delicious box of snacks from Colombia this month. I was surprised that they had so many that I would consider adding to my weekly snack stash. While some of them were really sweet a little bit would go a long way and that is always good when it comes to snacks. Also being the huge chip-a-holic that I am any country that has so many variations is my cup of tea.

The back of the information booklet has a clue for the next country. Clue: You’ve heard this place on the news, but keep an open mind. It’ our first time going here, and who knows what we will find? Masala-flavored chips? Cumin Cookies? Just know that you’ll want more… It’s a whole new world of Yums next month, in the land of the pure!

Where do you think we are going? Next month we are going to get a taste of Yums from Pakistan!

Have you tried Universal Yums? What do you think?
