Winc (formerly Club W) is a wine subscription service that sends wine directly to you each month based on your personalized palate profile. A “global winery,” Winc advertises that it has “direct relationships with vineyards and farmers to make exceptional small lot wines at prices impossible to achieve at retail.”

You fill out a quick survey about what tastes you like – black coffee, citrus, etc., and Winc makes a customized recommendation of 3 bottles that fits what you like. Then, for $6 flat shipping (or free if you pick a 4th bottle), it comes to your house!

Our four selections arrived packed in a special shipping container that protected both the bottles and the Winc Journal for this month.

A few months ago, instead of the information/menu cards, Winc started sending a little magazine called the Winc Journal.

This month was all about Summer Love!

It had several cool and refreshing cocktail recipes, that I can’t wait to try out.

The magazine has a lengthy section with a bit of information on many of the wines currently offered. As the official summer wine, Rose got a lot of attention.

My favorite section of the journal was, Member Love. I loved seeing how people enjoy their selections and all the great words about this amazing subscription were heartwarming.

All the wines this month!

2016 Rosé Summer Water: This is a collaboration with Yes Way Rose. It notes of strawberry, peach, and grapefruit, with an assertive minerality.

The wine is dry and crisp, making for a very refreshing beverage when adequately chilled or with I few ice cubes to keep it super cold.

2014 Folly of the Beast Pinot Noir: This bright, round-tannined red represents the impossible: an excellent Pinot Noir at an affordable price. Tasting notes of black pepper, cocoa, strawberry.

Folly of the Beast is proof that a little madness pays off. Aged in new and neutral French oak to enhance notes of sweet spice, this full-bodied Pinot pairs nicely with pork, poultry and cheeses. I also hear it pairs nicely with pasta in red sauce, I’m going to enjoy diner cooked by my 13 year old and this bottle of wine come pasta night.

2015 Matchlock Cabernet Sauvignon: This Cabernet began as a friendly competition among winemakers and ended in a beautiful balance of acidity, fruit and oak.

Perfect at room temperature and better with each sip, a full bodied wine with delicious notes of fruits like cherries and strawberries with a bit of spice. This wine helped put sugar and spice and everything nice into my evening.

2016 Funk Zone Rose: A light, fresh rosé blend of Grenache and Syrah from Santa Barbara County.

First this bottle’s label is amazing and will look great when I re-purpose it as a candle holder. Second this wine is divine! Filled with summer fruits and rose petals no wonder rose is the summer wine. Drinking it alone by the pool or around an antipasto plate, it’s bound to make everyone say yum!

Winc prides itself on finding unique varietals and new blends. Wines are chosen based on your flavor preferences, so there is something for everyone! If you’re like me, a bit of a control freak, you can customize your order. Since this grouping was so wonderful I think I’ll let Winc do all the work.
