All the magical loot in the January/February 2017 box!

Harry Potter Prophecy Pin!

Large, gorgeous, but lighter than you might think! This pin has 2 pins on the back to keep it perfectly in place.

I kind of wish this pin had a little more – an inscription on the back with S.P.T to A.P.W.B.D Dark Lord and (?) Harry Potter would have been downright perfect! I do love how they captured the swirling mists. It’s lovely – and large!

Professor Snape “Always” Tee: Yessss! If you don’t understand this shirt, you haven’t read far enough, and you might want to check out our review of a this Snape tribute box for a wee refresher! My daughter grabbed this one (she’s nearing the end of book three) but I cautioned her not to wear it to school yet until she understood it. I can’t have her spoiled. So touching and Snape, of course, is the best illustration of the complexity of the characters in the Wizarding World.

Platform 9 3/4 Socks: These socks are exclusive to the box and feature dye sublimination printing on top, and an intarsia knit on the bottom.

Unfortunately for us, these are men’s socks, and pretty gigantic. Since this is a box that all ages and sizes are subscribing to, I would love to see smaller sizes offered. I don’t think it would be off the mark to make a guess that significantly more than half of the recipients of this box found these to be much too large.

The design is cool – we did decide that dad can wear them to our Wizarding World trip in March!

Time-Turner Necklace!

My daughter was into this piece – but if you were expecting a super high-quality accessory, you’d be disappointed with this one.

It’s on a basic cord, the inner piece doesn’t spin, it’s not an hourglass, and it’s a little bit cheap. If you don’t have a time turner yet (like my daughter), you’d probably be excited! She started to regale me with everything Hermione can use one for, so we moved onto the next item!

Deathly Hallows Pocket Watch!

This pocket watch is very cool, with a good quality, and was universally liked by all the Potterheads in my house.

Really nice detail on the front!

Of course, time is the ultimate master of death, so this is the perfect item to plaster the Deathly Hallows symbol on!

Funko POP! Harry Potter Luna Lovegood Vinyl Figure ($14.90) It’s another Pop! I was relieved to get something new for our collection!

It’s been so fun to re-live all the Potter goodness through my daughter’s exploration of the books, and I strongly recommend picking up the set or checking it out of the library, and then rewatching all the movies too! My kiddos haven’t made it to Luna yet, but I was delighted by the details, including those dirigible plum earrings and beetle ring!

This was a solid box, but not the best box that Loot Crate has ever produced. I definitely wished for a little better quality on the Time Turner and more sizing options on the socks (I also think this subscription should offer youth sizes on the shirt – but we just get a women’s small and both my kids seem happy with it). That being said – these 6 items for $40 shipped is less than $7 per item, nearly all of which are exclusive, and we are loving this box as a family. Really, I should have hidden everything and brought it out as souvenirs for our upcoming trip, but we are all living the Harry Potter magic and the items are too fun not to use immediately. All this being said, we can’t wait to see what they do with the first House-specific box, whether or not they’ll eventually have North American house specific items, and whether or not they’ll focus on more housey items like Marvel Gear & Goods is (as in stuff for your actual house)!
