This month in addition to the regular Target Beauty Boxes, Target also made available the Target Beauty Mystery Box for $15, or free with a $30 purchase! This box is still available, but the regular December 2016 Target Beauty Box is now sold out.

Be sure to  sign up for the daily or weekly newsletter or…

click on the box for notifications so you never miss a Target Beauty Box! You’ll get email notifications when we post about it (see the details about Hello Subscription Notifications!)

DEAL: Save 5% when you use your Target Red Card.

The box comes with sample-size products, but you can always buy the full-size version at Target.com.

No value was promised, but a list of brands was provided:

Includes 8-12 sample sized items from these brands: , W3LL People, SheaMoisture, Aveeno , S.W. Basics Lip Balm, Neutrogena, OGX, AmLactin, Hada Labo Tokyo, Revita, Avatara Face Masks, Renpure, Sinful Colors Nail Polish, Vaseline , Tree Hut, Colgate, Soap & Glory, Hair Food, Olay, Crest, CoTZ, L’Oreal Paris, Maybelline NY, Garnier

I got this box free by picking up an advent calendar and a couple of nice holiday gift sets (see my deal ideas here). Spoiler alert! I thought this box was disappointing – definitely don’t buy outright, but if you want to use up your $3 off coupon, for sure it’s worth getting it free if you have $30 in beauty items to pick up this month from Tarjay.

Amlactin Moisturizing Body Lotion ($0.18) Well I like Amlactin, which is fragrance free and uses AHA to help remove dry skin, but the real value in this one is the coupon, which expires on 12/31. I don’t think I’m in the market for it yet.

Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo ($0.13) and Aveeno Pure Renewal Conditioner ($0.13)

This is a great travel bag pair – and it’s sulfate-free! This “renewal” shampoo & conditioner is meant to be clarifying, so it’s also nice not to have huge bottles hanging around, I only use them every so often.

Avatara Face Shape Up Mask For Delicate Skin ($3) I love a good face mask, and this one is made out of Tencel! I’m happy to see that it’s focused on firming skin, I need this one!

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation (89¢?) I tried this one without reading the shade – Golden Honey – and tossed it, so the value is a (high) estimation.

L’Oreal Advanced Haircare Extraordinary Oil Curls Nourishing Shampoo ($0.08)

L’Oreal Advanced Haircare Extraordinary Oil Curls Nourishing Conditioner ($0.08)

L’Oreal Advanced Haircare Extraordinary Oil Curls Re-Nourish Mask ($0.24)

I’ll save this to pass along – “very dry, curly hair” is the exact opposite of mine, which is limp, flat, and fine.

Colgate Wisp Optic White Brushes ($0.34) These are always useful and I like the dental picks on the ends too. I think it’s gross to brush your teeth in public but I like to keep them clean, so I enjoy any non-traditional clean teeth solution.

S.W. Basics Cinnamon Lip Balm ($3.80)  This balm uses cocoa butter, beeswax, and coconut oil, plus essential oils. I’m not a fan of anything that really tingles, so this one’s going in a stocking! Otherwise I’m happy with this brand and item.

Ranpure Originals Coconut Cream Nourishing Shampoo ($0.70) This shampoo has some bad reviews on Target and a load of them on Amazon. Frankly I’m a little afraid to use it.

Garnier Skin Active Clearly Brighter Daily Moisturizer ($5.20) This moisturizer targets dark spots and poor skin tone with Vitamin C & E, Pine Bark Essence, and Lipo-Hydroxyl Acid. I’m really happy with this and will be using it on my Florida trip for some SPF and hopefully an added bonus of better looking skin!

Cotz Natural-Tinted Face Sunscreen ($2.28) And this, this is one of my favorite items of all time! It’s lightly tinted (so it doesn’t look whitish), goes on matte, and has great SPF protection with a mineral sunscreen.

I think this box was great as a freebie, especially if you purchased something needed (or wanted!) with it. I came up with about $16.87 value for this box, which is pretty bad if you paid for the box OOP. As a freebie, it’s absolutely fantastic. I really liked a couple of the items – the COTZ, the Garnier, and the face mask. The rest are great for the travel pile!

These boxes just looks like they took all the beauty samples the in store beauty concierge used to give you for free and started charging for them. Oof

But the Beauty Concierges still give out the red sample bags, aisle samples, etc…. If anything I’ve noticed more samples from them in the past year, not less .
