boxwalla-food-october-2016-box

The Boxwalla Food box contains delicious artisan crafted foods and goodies from all across the US! Boxwalla is a bi-monthly subscription service that offers four themes – natural beauty, artisanal food, international film, or books! In Boxwalla you’ll be able to discover great artisans and artists from across the globe.  After your first box you can switch themes, but of course you can subscribe to more than one box as well.

The food box focuses on small-batch goodies, but only the best!

The packaging for this box is absolutely gorgeous. The box itself is sort of like a luxe cotton rag paper covered box handcrafted by artisans in Rajasthan, India, and no child labor is ever used. The outside of the reusable box indicates which variety of Boxwalla you received. I love how the box itself supports socially and environmentally conscious goals.

The information card is a letter from “The Drunken Boxwallas” detailing each of the products. The theme for this box is Sweet Autumn Surprise.

Everything in the October Boxwalla Food Box! It was a surprise, and it was very sweet! And I loved it all!

Note: The first two products are a repeat (with new flavors) from a previous box due to subscriber demand. Having have reviewed a great many food and gourmet subscription boxes, I will say with 100% honesty that these are items I would demand to see again too – I was delighted when I opened this box!

Ethereal Confections Candied Ginger + Candied Orange Peel + Coriander ($7.50)

boxwalla-food-october-2016-8

Here bright and merry candied ginger and orange peel play off the sweetness of the chocolate and the earthiness of the coriander. It’s the perfect finishing touch to a southeast Asian inspired meal.

Ethereal Confections Macadamia Nuts + Raspberries + Kaffir Lime ($7.50)

boxwalla-food-october-2016-7

The bitingly sweet raspberries in this bar play off the kaffir and are accentuated by the beautiful crunch of macadamia nuts.

These chocolate bars are absolutely unreal – gorgeous, artful bars that taste just as good as they look. Both with 66% chocolate, it was the perfect amount to show off the unique flavor combinations.

Any words I can use regarding this chocolate are pretty much the understatement of the century! I loved the twist of Asian flavors in these two selections, and they are so gorgeous, it’s hard to bring yourself to eat them, but you must. I “desked” these, which means my family is forbidden to eat them! I dole them out but I know if I put them in the pantry I’d never get a bite!

Ethereal’s chocolate bars are made my hand with organic ingredients and incredible flavors!

Anette’s Chocolates’ Chile Lime Tequila Tortilla Brittle ($11.95) An adult brittle with a splash of tequila!

boxwalla-food-october-2016-9

This is one of those items that you think, that’s weird – tortilla tequila chile lime – it must be in there as a novelty. Nothing in this box is ever a novelty, it’s all delicious! And this was too! It was a unique flavor twist on brittle, and it’s like if nachos were a dessert, this is what they would be (with a baked in margarita!). I didn’t find it particularly spicy, but I have a pretty good tolerance to heat.

Fave Artisan Chocolates!

Feve Artisan Chocolatier Caramelized Chai Spice Almonds ($8) These delightful goodies are roasted and covered in chai spiced chocolate, then coated in ginger infused “blonde chocolate” – white chocolate with ginger – and finished with a dusting of powdered sugar! I love the chai spice and chocolate combination in particular – it definitely is perfect for a crisp fall day.

Feve Artisan Chocolatier Chocolate Covered Hazelnuts ($8) Hazelnut and chocolate? Yes, please! Always! These hazelnuts are caramelized then covered in chocolate and dusted in cocoa. I thought these were amazing and I loved the surprise of the caramel crunch inside.

Feve Artisan Chocolatier Candied Orange Peel ($10) As much as I loved the first two goodies, for me they didn’t hold a candle to these sticks of wonder and delight. I don’t always love the chocolate and orange combo, but these aren’t just candied, they’re candied to the point of jelly, and jelly filled chocolate is basically the ultimate chocolate. They retain a nice bite, but are just perfectly balanced. It was sad when we got to the last one. Because I could eat them every single day!

Boxwalla this month was just so delightfully decadent, with fall-focused flavors that were just too delicious not to dig into! I loved the grown-up Halloween treat vibe – and I won’t touch a single piece of the bad stuff as a result. I have absolutely everything I need in this box.  The total value this month was about $53, which is really good for a small-batch artisan food subscription box with free shipping! I am hoping for more savory selections and new brand discoveries in the next box though!
