Wine Down Box delivers a curated pairing of the best small-production wine, cheese and charcuterie (salami). Each box includes one 750ml bottle of wine, enough cheese and charcuterie for two people and a bag of delicious handmade crackers. There are four subscription lengths to choose from and the price gets better with the longer the subscription. Wine Down box starts at $49 per month.
My box came packed to the hilt with ice to keep all the perishables at a desirable temperature. Like all wine clubs and subscriptions, Wine Down can only ship to certain areas.
**Important note: During the summer months of ~July-September, shipping is restricted to states within 2-day ground shipping distance of San Diego. We are working hard to improve our packaging and extend the refrigeration past 2 days and will update our shipping policy once improved.
We are only able to ship to states which have laws that permit shipment of wine directly to consumers. Currently we are unable to accept orders that are delivered to addresses in AK, AL, AR, DE, HI, KY, MS, OK, PA, RI, SD, and UT.
Large outer box houses the smaller goodie box…
Everything comes wrapped for the best protection of these items. My bottle of wine was in one piece and added bonus bubble wrap to pop.
This smaller pouch includes the cheese and meat. It’s marked perishable and was very cold when it arrived at my door. The packaging also indicates how to stay connected via social media.
White Cheddar cheese from places unknown. It didn’t come with label on the package or a card indicating where the products are from. This cheese was absolutely amazing, in fact the best I’ve had since moving from the east coast. It was creamy and rich, I could have eaten the entire chunk without crackers or wine.
I ended up finding the cheese information on the Wine Down website – Fiscalini Cheese Company Lionza Cheese
Finocchiona Handcrafted Italian Salami is a bold and flavorful salami. This one has hints of fennel and black pepper. I loved that it wasn’t overly greasy and didn’t over power the cheese or crackers.
Nita Crisp Wheat Crackers are all natural, baked in small batches and hand cut. I love when I don’t have to look up ingredients because they are all items I can pronounce and have heard of. I was surprised at the amount of taste and crunch to this thin cracker. Just the right amount of salt to add to the cheese and salami, I would keep these crackers on hand for all my snacking needs.
James Family Cellars 2012 Pinot Noir is garnet-hued with a medium to full body. It smells wonderfully of berries and other fruits, the flavor just got better as tit warmed up a bit. Apparently 55 degrees is the perfect temperature for this wine and a normal refrigerator is at 35 degrees so it only makes sense that it gets better as it warms.
The pairings in this box are incredible! No one product over powered the others they simply made each one that much better. The cheese and wine were the gold medal winners in this box, both strong in flavor and in taste.
The fact that these all present so beautifully was not lost on me. I can’t wait to order these amazing products for a house warming gift or a holiday party. It was an amazing way to “wine down” and the pairing was exceptional. I do wish the box had included an information card with curators notes on the pairing, although it pretty much spoke for itself!
