Nomadik August 2016 Subscription Box Review + Coupon

Nomadik is a subscription box for outdoor enthusiasts that helps you “get outside, explore, and have some fun–it’s good for the soul!” – Pat Hines, Nomadik’s Founder

Each month, expect to receive unique, functional gear designed to increase your fun in the outdoors. All products have been trail tested by an outdoor adventurer and will often incorporate new technologies. Each box will contain one main product, between one and three smaller products and one or two inspirational items to get you outdoors.

They’re still very new, and it looks like they’ve tweaked their subscription. Whereas before it had been a bimonthly subscription, they’ve changed it to monthly and have lowered the cost of individual boxes. Although a single box costs $30, the cost per box goes down with longer subscriptions. Nomadik’s goal is to provide boxes whose retail values are roughly $40. Although they may fall just short of that some months, other months will have a slightly higher retail value.

Each box arrives well packaged with lots of squiggles.

August 2016’s box contains the following: an inspirational postcard, a fire starter, tinder, a waterproof journal, hanging rope for eyewear and biodegradable wipes.

I like how the curator includes descriptions of each item along with their retail values on the enclosed information card.

Exotac’s Polystriker Fire Starter ($11.95) is a 0.5 oz firestarter that works even when wet. The two components arrive affixed to a lanyard so you won’t lose track of them. This is the second one of these I’ve received in subscription boxes this month! It’s an awesome tool, so clearly, great minds think alike. Still, I won’t need another for some time, so I’ll pass this along to a friend who will put it to use immediately.

Exotac’s Tinder Tin ($5.95) is a metal container full of fatwood shavings that have been repurposed from pine stumps left over from the timber industry. How cool! The fatwood “lights quickly, burns hot and is wind and moisture resistant.” I like thinking about how much time and effort this lightweight (1.3 oz) tin will save me when building campfires–no more cutting my own shavings from sticks for me! This will leave me with more time to play with my kids.

Nomad’s Adventure Journal Waterproof Paper Series Writing Journal ($8.50) is a waterproof and tearproof writing journal. How neat! Perfect to use as a journal on all of your outdoor adventures, I look forward to using this to detail some of my findings the next time I go tracking.

I’m excited to use Chums’s Universal Fit 3 mm Rope Eyewear Retainer ($8.99)! I wear glasses regularly, but often worry about losing (or scratching!) them when walking on uneven terrain. Not any more! I look forward to wearing these on my next hike (which my son informs me is tomorrow).

These Freshends Towelettes ($0.96 based on the cost of 100) smell great! They double as moistened flushable wipes, which makes them perfect for all of your (and your kids’) cleaning and toileting needs. Made with aloe, Vitamin E, cucumber extract and chamomile, these soft alcohol-free wipes are gentle on skin.

As someone who enjoys hiking, tent camping, animal tracking and just hanging out in the outdoors, I love Nomadik! The products are always top notch, useful and cool. I was thrilled to receive the inspirational postcard from the Grand Tetons this month! My in-laws are planning a trip to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks in 2020 and have invited us to come along. I was thrilled that the inclusion of this postcard helped rekindle my excitement for the trip!
