Circa 1955 Candle Subscription Box Review – August 2016

Circa 1955 is a monthly subscription box that sends candles that might make your home smell like The Happiest Place on Earth – Disneyland! Each month you’ll receive 2 candles in scents inspired by the attractions, treats, and atmospheres from the Disney Parks. They have 2 options to choose from: The Signature Candle Box is $20 and comes with two, 6.5oz candles in a tin container; The Grand Candle Box is $35 and comes with two, 10.5oz candles in a glass container. Subscriptions will automatically renew until you cancel, and shipping is extra.

I grew up in Southern California and once a year we would make the 36 mile trip to Disneyland for a day filled with fun and magic so I was kind of giddy when I found this in my mailbox and couldn’t wait to see which fragrances were inside!

There was a beautiful card inside with the macaws from The Enchanted Tiki Room, one of my must-sees when I visit Disneyland! I may have been jumping up and down at this point (Dole Whip, Dole Whip, DOLE WHIP!). Underneath the environmentally friendly packing peanuts was another box.

This box contained the candles. These candles are made by Lux Illume and I wanted to know what set them apart, so I found the following on their website:

Our candles are made in extremely small batches from 100% US grown, GMO free soy wax.  We use high quality fragrances and lead-free wicks.  Soy candles are known for burning cleaner and longer than their paraffin counterparts.  We don’t outsource any part of our process. These are made by Disney fans, for Disney fans.

In the spirit of serving others, we donate a portion of profits each month to the “Give Kids the World” charity. This amazing organization specializes in providing children facing life-threatening illnesses the opportunity to enjoy a  magical vacation in Central Florida.

Just to be clear, these candles are inspired by, but not affiliated with, The Walt Disney Company.

I received 2 cards in my box. The first one gave instructions on how to burn the candles properly.

The second card listed the two scents that I received.

I love the Circa 1955 logo! Both of my candles were in cute tins. These scents are exclusive to subscribers, but 2 months after a scent debuts, it will be available for purchase on the Lux Illume site. July’s scents are there now; I highly suggest you grab Mainstreet Marceline because it is quite possibly the best candle ever made, or at least that I have ever tried.

Pineapple Float is inspired by DOLE WHIP! For those of you who have never been to the Wonderful World of Disney, Dole Whip is a soft-serve pineapple ice creamy concoction sold right outside the Enchanted Tiki Room and is made with Dole pineapples and magic. This candle seeks to capture its very essence and yada yada yada it smells awesome!

In keeping with the island vibe, candle number two is called Tropical Hideaway and is inspired by the Enchanted Tiki Room itself and is a luscious blend of fruit and flowers. I’m considering adopting parrots and charging a fee for people to enter my house. I’ll throw in a lei for free.

I am in love with these candles! They both had good throw. I burned them in my kitchen and the scent drifted through to my living room. They even smell good cold! I plan on going to Disneyland this winter so it is helping me get in the mood for my trip but you don’t have to be a Disney fan to enjoy this subscription. Anyone who loves a great smelling candle would appreciate it too!
