How To Be A RedHead
How To Be A RedHead

How to Be a Redhead Subscription Box is the brainstorm of two sisters, Adrienne and Stephanie Vendetti.  The box is to help redheads “to feel confident, look amazing and rock their beauty.” The products are tested for 10 days before being considered for the box. The products range from samples to full-size. It ships the first week of the month.

Here are the items in the July 2016 box.

Bedhead Resurrection Shampoo & Conditioner Minis
Bedhead Resurrection Shampoo & Conditioner Minis

The Bed Head Urban Anti-dotes Resurrection Shampoo Mini (2.54 oz, $7.99) and Conditioner (2.54 oz, $7.99) is for dry, damaged hair. It has great reviews all over the internet for bringing hair back to life. My favorite part about the shampoo and conditioner is that it says that you must have a sense of humor to use their products. Don’t use it on the days when you woke up on the wrong side of the bed!

Manufacture Date or Expiration Date???
Manufacturer Date or Expiration Date???

Or maybe not. The shampoo has a date stamp 011316 and the conditioner has a date stamp of 021016. Manufacturer date or expiration date? Google won’t tell me! I went to the store to check out Bed Head products and am leaning towards manufacturer date. I could be totally and completely wrong. Use your judgment in deciding whether to use the product.

I would like to see products that they list in their article dated April 2016 10 Ways to Nurture and Care for Your Red Hair in their subscription box.

Covergril Outlast All Day Lipcolor

Swatch
Swatch

I was unhappy with my box by that time I got to the Covergirl Outlast All Day Lipcolor in Red Hot ($8.99). I did not take a picture of it on my lips because the swatch looks strange. There were a couple of flakes in the swatch that may have come from the brush. I did enter the manufacturer code in the Check Cosmetic website, and it came back with a manufacturer date of July 2014 and is good for another 13 months. I rarely take this extra step when writing reviews but did not feel confident because of issues with expiration dates in this box.

It’s a great concept. Wear gorgeous red lip color and seal it with a top coat lasting up to 24 hours. The formula felt creamy on my skin. I love rocking a red lipstick!

Udderly Smooth Haad Cream
Udderly Smooth Hand Cream

The Udderly Smooth Hand Cream (2 oz, $4.74) does not contain milk or bovine ingredients. It is a scentless cream that rubs easily into the skin. It was originally developed to be used on cow udders which are basically cow breasts.

Invisbobble
Invisbobble

The Invisibobble ($6.00) is a set of three hair rings that don’t break hair or cause headaches. The website has different looks that show how to use the hair rings. It’s not for me.

Beauty & Pinups Fearless Treatment
Beauty & Pinups Fearless Treatment

The Beauty & Pinups Fearless Treatment Pouch (1 oz, $10.00) is an intensive hair treatment that is free of parabens and phthalates, and sulfates. Apply to damp hair, cover with cap, and wait 5-10 minutes, rinse and style. The hair masque restores thickness, vitality, helps with breakage and adds shine to your hair. I haven’t decided if I am going to use the hair masque because of the focus of adding thickness to the hair because due to the castor oil ingredient.

Benzac Acne Solutions
Benzac Acne Solutions Blemish Clearing Hydrator

The Benzac Blemish Clearing Hydrator (1 oz, $11.99) will help keep acne away. It is a lightweight moisturizer serum that is part of a 3 step program to banish acne. It contains sandalwood and .5 % salicylic acid. The lotion has a slightly medicated scent.

Expiration Date
Expiration Date

The full-size product is set to expire in a couple months which surprised me. Let me know if that matters to you! I will be passing this off to my sister who is eager to try it out.

PA Anna Picks
dpHUE Apple Cider Hair Rinse and Blue Lizard Sunscreen Sample Pocket

The dpHUE Apple Cider Hair Rinse (1 oz, $5.00) removes buildup without stripping the hair of its oils. It contains a mixture of flower extracts and long chemical names.

The Blue Lizard Sunscreen Sample Pocket (0.20 oz, $1.00) is the only item that excites me in the box. I have yet to try out the brand. I have no clue why the price is listed as $5.00 on the information card

I feel there is a disconnect between the website and the box curation. I noticed that there are brands being repeated although I have not experienced it in the three months that I reviewed the boxes. There is the question of expiration dates when it comes to the Bed Head products and the Benzac product. The only item I liked was the sunscreen packet which had an incorrect value listed on the card. The value of the box is over $60.00 which is great for an $18.00 box. There is also a variety of products which works out well if one or two products doesn’t work for you.

This box doesn’t seem like it is for redheads! And it is disappointing that the products they mention on their website are not in the box! I rather see the products they mention on their website even if it means one less product or even two less products if products are decent size (no foil packets).

re: expiry dates on hair care – there’s no law (at least in the US by the FDA) to print expiry dates on haircare products. According to my friend/hairstylist, unopened products have a shelf life of 3 years – once it’s opened and exposed to air/water, it decreases to about 1.5-2 years. (I asked her this once because I stocked up on Amika products when they were on sale.)
