Oh my it is going to be one “SPICY” summer. I received this month’s box from Spiced Up. This is a monthly spice subscription started by two friends. Each month they send you a few selections of spices for you to try on your next culinary adventure. With each spice you are given details about the spice such as origin, taste, and ingredients (like if it is a rub) also you will get a small list of what dish that spice could be used for.

This month’s box included Marjoram leaves, Vindaloo Curry Spice, Canadian Love Rub, and Jalapeño Pepper Granules.

You also get a recipe card that calls for one of the spices in your box. This is great for me as I collect recipes and a couple of these spices I have yet to use. My recipe card is for Pork Vindaloo which is an Indian recipe that has a kick.

So let’s get started.

The first spice is  the  Vindaloo Curry Spice ($3). It is from India and has a hot intense taste to it. When I get all the ingredients together, I am going to use it in the Pork Vindaloo recipe included in the box. I wish the internet had Smell-O-Vision so you can smell the aroma this spice gives off. It is divine!

Next is the Canadian Love Rub ($8). This one comes from Montreal. The taste is described as peppery, salty and full flavored. It is a rub that is comprised of several spices: chili, garlic, black pepper, coriander, salt, dill, corn oil, and Oleoresin of paprika. Oh my it smells like it would be a perfect rub for a steak on the grill. What do you know that is one of the uses. It can also be used for chicken, hamburger, potatoes and fish.

I did try some on some chicken I made for a salad. It was delicious! I am in spice heaven.

Time to kick it up a notch with Jalapeño Pepper Granules ($3) This one has its origins from Mexico. As we all know Jalapenos have a hot and spicy flavor. Ooh weeee! You better have a drink  handy when eating these. They are good in your Mexican dishes such as tacos and burritos. My oldest likes to put them on his pizza.  What do you use Jalapenos for?

Okay the next spice is not spicy but it is a staple in my house. Marjoram ($3)! This herb has a Mediterranean origin and sweet subtle flavor. It is great for meat dishes, meat loaf, and sauces. I use a little in my spaghetti sauce and turkey stuffing.

I forgot there is also a small wooden spoon included in the box. It is a cute little treat.

I hope you enjoy this box as much as I did. If you haven’t ordered yours yet, go ahead and give your kitchen a “SPICY” upgrade. You won’t regret it. This subscription is a great deal at $20 a month. I received 4 spices in my box and I know if I tried to buy them at the grocery store I would have spent more. Most spices average $5 a bottle. Here’s a little bit information, if you prepay your subscription for the year, you also get a spice rack of 12 spices.

What would you cook with these spices?
